Press the "UTILITY" button under the Menu heading above the 10 digit key-pad. Under "System Parameter" -Param3, check that PS2 Mouse is set to "ON" and (of course) that the connector is firmly inserted into the mouse connector socket.
You have to go on utility system parameter on the f2 parameter page vga out check on ,and operation target check vga.
But also you should make sure that you have the proper os for your vs 2.504 ,you can download it from roland site ,and you'll get information about how to upgrade the unit.

Most of those units needed a new cdr drive, which means it's possible that the current material could be lost. Inner Sound is a Roland authorized facility, you can call them.
I'm sorry. I have no first hand experience with these units, not to mention, I'm a hardware guy. I can repair it, but I have to look in the owner's manual, just like you, to use it. These are questions you should be able to find in your owner's manual. If not there, check with the Roland website.
The last time i used a VS-1680 was probably over 7 years ago, but if memory serves me right the only way of taking the tracks of to a pc, was by using an spdif line out to the pc and recording them that way, which if i remember right was a dog slow process as you were limited in how many tracks you could record at a time. there is an old forum i used to frequent with a guy quoting this http://homerecording.com/bbs/user-forums-brand/roland-boss-vs-series-forum/roland-vs1680-pc-file-transfers-96373/#post906840 so that may be another way of doing it
I have figured out a way to get around this problem without losing your data or sending it to Roland.
I have three roland 2480s and have 4 hard drives. Buy another spare drive and when you load up to a different IDE drive shut it down, then put the old drive back into the unit and it will boot from the last known ide. Make sure it is not the same IDE # that was giving you the problem. You will get at your files but you better start to backup and defrag. I will not delete files on my roland unless I am willing to defrag. Buy an extra drive from a third party. You can see a company that sells this stuff on ebay and they are very good. "VS something store."
my hard drive isnt being recognized - during dvd back up burning it said write error then started flickering.
