Hi, I have Hitachi external 80G hard drive. It was working fine until a week ago when I had copied pictures from my camera to this disk on my laptop (HP running windows 7). After I copied my pics, I tried opening pics to view them and found system is hung. I waited for long to get some response but it did not happened. I forcefully shutdown my system it went into unresponsive state. Since then I cannot perform any read/write on the disk. I have tried it with diff laptops running windows xp. Now when I connect my hard disk to any system, I see a solid red (contstantly red), USB recognition ding sounds and sometimes I can see it in 'My Computer' but when I try to explore it, it doesn't work. I think the disk like of locked or something, not sure. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Bharat

SOURCE: HDD not recognised

HI Your Hard Drive is previously formatted and have done different partition provided by your previous machine where you took this hard drive from. Use "The Partition Magic" Software, it will help you to fix and repartition your hard drive in the new format. I have this problem before and now my hard drive can connect with any computer. The key in this issue is any hard drive goes with the original machine has been formatted and do its own partition from manufacturer so if you take it out later for use with other machine, you will need a software to completely rearrange the new partition in universal format so other computers can recognize it. This manufacturer purpose to protect your data from hacking, stealing once you take it out from the original machine. That is why when you connect it to other machine, this hard drive will not be recognized. I has this partition magic software and can make you a copy so you don't have to buy it. Just read the instruction and you can fix it for both 2.5" and 3.5" HD. Please email me at [email protected] and provide me your mailing address, I can send the copy software to you. Regards, pingping

SOURCE: hard disk acess problem

Hi, What the message mean is that Windows can not read/understand the filing system (something like the Table of Contents in a book) and therefore do not which and where are your files in the 80Gb. A few things you can try: 1. Run Windows Scandisdk on the Hitachi 80Gb; 2. Run any third party disk check/utility such Norton Disk Doctor. Alternately, you can use a file recovery software (such as GetDataBack) to recover/copy all your important files from the 80Gb and transfer them to another mass storage device. Thereafter, you can re-partition and re-format the said Hitachi to start new/fresh/clean. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turnes up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Hi, yesterday my hitachi external hard drive is fallen to the floor and after that it is doesn't work. but the lights are working. i want know can i take my old data from hard disk and can it...

Dropping hard drives is a sure way of damaging the drive. There is no way us mortals can repair a damaged hard drive that has been dropped.
Retrieving data fromdamaged hard disk is possible. There are companies that can remove the diskplatters from the damaged hard drive and with special equipment may beable to recover your data, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for theirservices. The reason for this high cost, they dismantle and remove the plattersin the hard drive in a clean room environment and set up the platters up injig/drive to retrieve/copy the data.

You can use an external Hard disk and transfer your data.

Your drive is failing and you should back up any important data you need onto CD/DVD or an external USB device (hard drive/pen drive). The drive may keep working for a while but your system is warning you that it has detected a critical error with the drive and failure is imminent.

Hi, I have a simpletech/hitachi signature 160 gb external hard drive. It was fne until yesterday. Suddenly, my laptop is not recognizing it. what do I do?

Connect it to a different computer.
If it works, then connecting to _your_ computer is the problem.
If it does not work, then either:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the casing has failed, or,
* the disk-drive inside the casing has failed.

Open the case, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in your computer, to see if the disk-drive itself is "good" or "bad".

Google-search for "Data Recovery Services" -- these are commercial, high-cost, companies, that can temporarily repair a "dead" disk-drive, just long enough to try to copy all the files from the disk onto a new disk-drive.

When trying to upload my pics, computer says can't locate device

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Want to use clone hard drive to run XP

Because the HP and Fujitsu have different devices, you cannot clone (or create an image of) the hard disk and expect it to work on the other laptop.
Your best bet would be to copy your data files onto a USB memory stick or an external USB hard drive and plug it into the HP. You can open the files on the USB memory Stick/hard drive to work on them or copy them to the HP's hard drive to work on them.
When your Fujitsu has been repaired you can copy the latest files from the USB memory stick/hard drive back onto your Fujitsu.

Hitachi ide 80G hard disk on pentium 4 pvmm2 motherboard.

no, it can handle an 80Gb. But before you do that reset first the firmware cause it helps your computer to prepare whatever plug and play devices the you may attach to it. or Upgrade your previous firmware to a higher version.
