Sansa m250 doesn't continue playing from the same spot after power up

I bought m250 for the sole purpose of being able to listen to audio books on my commute. m250 supports Windows DRM and so does my audio library service. Anyway... I downloaded my first book, in WMA format and put it on the Sansa. However I see the following problems:
1) About every 2nd or 3rd time after power up, I go through the power-up logo screens ok and end up on the the screen that shows the song or say chapter of my book. However, progress bar is not shown and the player basically "hangs" - not responding to any key presses except for long-press on power key.
2) While first problem is annoying - it can be overcome by power-cycling the player. My second problem is much more severe. Since I am listening to the audio books, the "songs" i.e. chapters are pretty long - could be like an hour or so. So, when I arrive to work, I pause my player and obviously I am expecting that I will be able to continue listening from the same spot where I left off after I power-up this device. Indeed, when I power up sansa (and if problem (1) doesn't happen), then the screen shows correct progress bar of my book chapter - say I am on chapter 2, and 35 minutes into the chapter. However, if I try to press "play", the progress bar still shows that I am at 35 minute point but the chapter actually starts playing from the beginning! This pretty much makes the player unusable for audio books! Trying to fast-forward is also a very frustrating experience, as it is very hard to control and you often "overshoot" to the next chapter.
I downloaded firmware upgrade program and it told me that I have the latest and greatest firmware already.
Hope someone can help. I like the physical appearance of the device and it would suite my pruposes perfectly - if it only worked.
Same doggone problem here too. Also, I think the fast fwd problem described is related, or at least related to long tracks. Exmpl- I have an audiobook chapter 1:10:00 long. Fast fwd works fine and is not touchy at all for the first 13 minutes, but cross over past 14:00, and it's nearly impossible to release the button without it jumping to the next track.

I have the same problem and I do not agree, this is NOT an issue with all MP3 players. My Creative Zen Nano has no such issue and I have been using it problem free for 3 years. I have the same problem with the m250, I do not believe that it is a problem with all MP3 players, the 512mb Sansa mp3 player I have does allow me to pause and resume from the spot where I paused.
Also, with the 250, I am not able to fast forward, I can only skip.

This player will only recognize Audible audiobook files
There is not a fix for the pause/resume issue - it is a major problem for just about every mp3 player that claims audiobook compatibility

Normally MP3 players can only play music/audio files in mp3 file format.
You need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto yourcomputer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3player. You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player willcreate a MP3 music file for each music track. Audible books are protected, you can copy them into device, but you can't play them (...subscription...appearing ). You must use audible manager to sync audible books.
You should delete audible books that make pop up a message " synchronize to....", otherwise, your device always pops up the message when it meet the audible books.
hi, your sansa m259 mp3 player does not support playing video songs(.wmv).You can listen to the following supported audio files only (.wma or .mp3) in your player. If you want to listen to video songs, try finding the software which converts video files to audio files, convert them and you can listen. I use a Creative Zen V Plus, but have a similar problem.
First, an explanation: the issue is probably with the timecode in the audio track. This can happen when the audio file is created on a computer. The audiobook was likely "ripped" to a file from the original audiobook CD, and your player may not like the format the file is in. The best solution in this case is to recreate the audio files yourself. First remove all of the files from your Sansa for that particular book. Then use CD-burning software on your computer to create an audio CD (not a data CD!) from the files you got from the library. Finally, use the software that came with your Sansa to transfer the audio CD back to your Sansa. This way you know you are getting a correct format on your player.
If you have an additional issue (like me) where the tracks are too long and go back to the beginning every time you turn your player off, you may have to use an audio editor such as Audacity to chop the long tracks up into smaller tracks, but this is quite time consuming. It is best to acquire audiobooks in smaller tracks in the first place. This is the problem I have been faced with while using Audible.com to listen to audiobooks.

This is how I fixed Sansa m250 2GB
I have Windows XP, so if you have a different version of Windows
you might have to do something else.
Connect the player to your computer.
From My Computer open the drive that says SANSA M250
If there is no folder called "audio" make a folder
named that. (this is where your future mp3 files will be stored).
My audio folder was missing, so I had to do this.
Now go back to My Computer right click on the SANSA M250
drive scroll down the menu and open the folder that says "Open As Portable
Media Device".
Now click on the icon that says "SANSA M250"
Now open the folder that says "FOUND.000". If you are having the same problem that I did all your
old mp3 files will show up with a file extension .CHK instead of mp3 and the
names will be numbers. You can either erase all these & reload all your
songs into the "audio" folder I mentioned previously or you can
rename each file extension to a .MP3 instead of .CHK. (after you change them to
.MP3 they will load on your mp3 player. But, remember if you do choose to
rename them instead of erasing and reloading, when you want to permanently
delete them you will have to access the "FOUND.000" folder again to
do that.
Spoken Word Browse the Audible audio book file in alphabetical order. Press the Play/Pause/Up Button or Repeat/AB/Down Button to browse through the audible audio files. Press the Select Button to browse the songs for the selected file.
Turn off the Sansa. Just pull the battery out for a second.
Plug the Sansa into a computer, and open "My Documents" in the computer.
Open the Sansa file as if it were a drive, then go to the "MUSIC Specific storage" file.
Right click the "MUSIC Specific storage" file, and press "Format."
This should hard reset the Sansa m250. I do not know if this will work on other Sansa m200 type .mp3 players. You can start over with your playlists. This has worked for me.
Sansa mp3 player won't hold when paused and turned off, also when fast forwarding for a long time, goes back to beginning when ff button is released.

I have the same problem and I do not agree, this is NOT an issue with all MP3 players. My Creative Zen Nano has no such issue and I have been using it problem free for 3 years. This is perhaps the most annoying problem I have ever had with an audio device.
