I got mac g4 just got face and ? on it, any have idea what going on it

Typically this is operating system corruption or a failed hard drive. If you can boot to your install media (CD, USB, or recovery partition) try a clean install. You could also try third party software solutions like Disk Warrior or Drive Genius (they supply bootable media) to fix the OS issues or check the disk for failures / corruption

I have a hp pavillion dv4 2126 tx laptop with windows 7 os. i need to load fedora or ubunto for the same. i want to know how to do it without disturbing windows os and my files.

First you will need to partition the hard drive. This can be done from within Windows 7 using the Disk Management utility. You may access this by right clicking on "Computer" and going to manage. You will then click on disk management to the left in the navigation pane. From there you will see a listing of your hard disks and their existing partitions (if any). You now need to right click on the partition you would like to shrink in order to make space for your Linux install. The minimum recommended amount is 15GB, but if you have more to spare, I highly recommend utilizing it.
Once the partition is shrunk you will have some unallocated space that the Linux install can take advantage of. You now simply need to boot from your Linux install CD and choose this unallocated space as the install point.
There is a video and an article I will reference that should help as well.

I have a compaq laptop about 8 months when i turn it on it has a black screen says soft hard disk error 1 (301) what does that mean? how do i fix it?

a softdisk error 301 means the hard drive is failing it is common on hp and compaq laptops ( hp owns compaq) unfortunately you are screwed to say the leas the hard drive is failingt. BUT you can save your data by hooking up an external hd and running ubuntu live cd to boot and copy any files you need from your hard drive over. you can download ubuntu from ubuntu.com and download and burn the live cd then you will need to set via ur bios when you boot i think its f2 or del key to get into the bios then go to boot order and select cd dvd drive to boot b4 cd then boot into the ubuntu disk and copy your files.

Turn computer on and it say disk boot failure

Possible that the hard disk /memory is faulty as it is most likely that the hard disk main partition drive is corrupt or damaged. If the set is able to boot up then you can get the drive partitioned and the OS reinstalled.
Recommend that you take option to confirm the fault before coming to a decision.

Hp pavillion zv6000 no disks need full restore...

Yes, the recovery partition is 100% true, and I've actually used it to repair a lot of systems, simply because it saves you time, stress and energy.
It is always on a smaller partition on your hard disk, and it is also hidden, so you wont see it.
To use the recovery partiton, you have first of all take note that you must backup ALL your documents first, because the use of the recovery partition will Actually format your harddrives and restore your system back to the factory settings, i.e the way you bought it.
Now, provided your own recovery partition is still intact and not yet corrupt, this is how to use it.
When you power up your system, Keep tapping the F11 key, i.e the F11 function key.
This will invoke the command that boots up your recovery parttion and lets your system boot from it.
Thereafter, you can just follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery, and again PLEASE remember to backup ALL your necessary documents first.
Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck

sounds like you've got a virus corrupting the c:drive. You may have to reformat the whole hard drive, if C:is the boot drive reguardless whether the D: drive works or not you will ahve to reformat the boot drive to run the computer.

When starting my DV4000 - the screen is dark other than a cursor in the left corner.

That error indicates a hard drive problem. You probably have to replace the hard drive.
