I just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro 13.3" 10.6.4, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM. Every time I open the Finder after a boot, the Applications folder is wide open. It's not affecting performance, but it is making me a bit crazy. How do I stop the Applications folder from opening automatically? Applications folder does not appear in Accounts Preferences and, yes, I do close the folder before I shut down.

SOURCE: Apple macbook

Hi Alison,
if you,ve exceeded the limited amount of changes, then you can,t make any more changes.
your only hope is to find a program such as CSS region free.
install this on the computer, which should allow you to play all region dvds.
Hope this helps :)

SOURCE: can i place a 4g and 2g stick in my macbook pro

Hello! The MacBook Pro you have mentioned can only support 4GB's total. 2GB's in the first slot, and 2GB's on the second slot.

What you may have seen by accident was that you can purchase either a 4GB kit, or a 2GB kit. Meaning a 4GB kit with 2 2GB sticks, or a 2GB kit with 2 1GB sticks.

Your best bet is to go with a 2GB stick in each slot to max out your MacBook Pro. 2GB's is the largest each slot can read.

For more information, check out the website below which has very detailed information on memory for various systems.

SOURCE: Firewire audio problem

Hey Waterleo
I am running a very similar system. Black macbook and saffire not LE.
So this could be your problem. When you first connect the firewire cable to your mac from the saff you will see on the inputs a signal coming from nowhere. This is the mac syncing with the saff. Im pretty sure its the same with the LE but you must wait until your Line Mode(pad) lights turn green this means the two are connected. Try waiting for this it may take upto 3 or 4 mins sometimes depending if you are using the external powersupply or not.
If you have already done this and still nothing try this. FIrst plug a guitar into an input of the saff and confirm there is a signal being produced. If so your problem may be in your system prefs.
Apple menu --> System prefs----> sound
you will see a window with 3 tabs labled input, output and sound effects.
go to input and confirm that the saffire is in the below list and highlighted, the same for output.
Ignore sound effects.
Also i just looked at my saffire and i am not being rude now but i am assuming that your new to this tech. so there is a pot(knob) on the front for your saffire labled monitor, this is your main volume for the system.
hope this helps my friend.

SOURCE: CD/DVD optical drive malfunctioning. Invariable performance with reading and ripping CDs. Cannot read DVDs.

upgrade your CD/DVD firmware from MAC website and install it.
if it does same even upgrading driver then most could be problem in optical lens so better taking back in the same place where you bought it from if its still under warranty.

or if its out of warranty then you need to take to Tech so they can fix it for you.

please post back if anything changes and rate all answers.

SOURCE: I have connected my macbook to my tv using mini

Later MacBook (Pro) use a mini-DVI connector that does not pass analog needed for composite or S-video. Was yours ever working? And most DVI connectors do not pass sound as seen by your cabling. You cannot detect display through RCA. You just set it in Sys Prefs :: Displays, try some other settings, although your seem right.
I have a white early-2009 MacBook and mini-DVI to HDMI adapter (monoprice <$10) and HDMI cable and have not connected the TOS-link for sound, yet--just slideshows at 1920x1080. You will get a much better picture digitally. -Ken

It sounds like you need a boot disk.

You can try to boot holding Command + R and go into recovery mode. If it's too old, you'll need to download the recovery tool from apple's website.

My safari crashes on my laptop after about 10 seconds. I've tried several times. I've also tried to download again. I have a Macbook Pro, OS version 10.5.8, Processor 2.4 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo,...

The first thing you should try is resetting the PRAM, this can be done by following this guide.

Then use the Finder to view your User/Library/Cookies/ folder, and drag the Cookies.plist file to the trash. now try Safari again.

If that cures the problem, then we know the cookies file was the reason.

Unfortunately you may lose various website settings and passwords, that were stored in the cookies.

If the problem still persists after this I would try calling apple support.
