I have a 2 year old GE WCVH6260HWW front loading washing machine. Last night I smelled burning and there was actuall smoke in the room. I just shut it down. To me it smelled like a rubber (belt) type smell. Any Suggestions?

Humming is normally caused by a failed start capacitor.
Smoke would normally be the motor or wiring, but I am a little puzzled by the smoke inside the machine, and can only think there is a gap on the top of the drum to the top panel.

In all likelihood, you need a new motor, but due to the cost of them, I would suggest getting a service tech in. Or you could remove the motor and take it to a local electric motor sales and repair outlet and ask if they can test the capacitor and motor.

well is it a smell of burning rubber? maybe the belt that turns the drum has got jammed. over time these belts get loose and when a full load of clothes are washed the belt slips creating heat hence the smoke..hope this helps..

THE INNER DRUM IS BAD WITCH LETS IT RUB THE FRONT SEAL OF THE WASHER YOU NEED TO SEE IF YOU CAN MOVE THE DRUM UP ARE DOWN ARE SIDE TO SIDE IF SO ONE OF THE SUPPORTS ON THE BACK BROKE AND THE GET THE SMELL OUT WASH THEM IN WHITE VINAGER

My guess would be the bearing going bad. Big job to replace but not impossible. If washer is old, I'd buy a new one instead.

I have the same problem, and I believe it is because the filter is full. I'm tracking down the repair process now.

I've downloaded the exploded view from GE.

  It may be possiblr by the way you explained the symptoms, that the tomer may have shorted out .That would be the most likely problem of the burning smell,and the case of no water entering the tub .

belt which operates pump/motor/transmission pulleys

first is first ,,, disconnect dryer from plug,, now open bottom panel 2 screws ,, now go and get youre vaccum,shop vac, anything ,, reason for burning smell ,, usually catching on fire ,, we recommend do this 1 as year,,, after cleaning , put about 2-3 fabric sheets inside dryer and let it runn for about 30 minutes to remive smoke from drum,,, thank you

If it is really noisey when it spins then this can only mean one thing.... the drum bearing are shot, its a complete strip down job, not an easy job for a beginer. Sorry
