There is a power-drill accessory made for this purpose and the Big Box stores have it, they are everywhere....It is a stone with a plastic backblade guide on it..That is one popular way of doing this.

Sharpening blades for qualcast 35s

With a cylinder mower the sharpness of the blade is only part of the concern. The fixed blade is like one of the blades of a pair of shears and each "blade" of the revolving cylinder acts as the other.

As long as only grass is being cut (no stones) the blades will last a long time with only occasional adjustment to the fixed blade as per instruction manual.
After much use or in case of damage the fixed blade will need replacing or sharpening. If it is badly worn it will need removing and sharpening by a specialist with the correct equipment but otherwise the light application of a file, stone or a patent sharpener and then readjust the blade per manual.

When eventually the cylinder becomes worn or sustains damage it must be removed and machine trued and sharpened using a lathe or similar.

An accurately sharpened cylinder and a true and sharp fixed blade correctly adjusted will consistently cut paper across the complete width of the blade when turned by hand. A competently sharped and adjusted cylinder mower will cut the thinnest tissue like the finest scissors without binding.

Sharpen chainsaw chain

I have four options when my chain saw blade gets dull. 1) replace it with a new one. 2) take it to a repair shop and pay half the price of a new blade. 3) Use my hand sharpening file kit from Lowe's, or 4) Use my electric chain saw blade sharpener form Harbor Freight. I recently purchased one for about $30 on sale. In one setting I earned the price of the sharpener by sharpening my old blades that were just hanging on a peg waiting to take to the repair shop. Really, the sharpener takes a small amount of skill, but the few minutes it takes to learn can save a lot of time and moo-lah.

What kinds of pencil sharpners are there?

There are many kinds of pencil sharpeners that have been developed through the years.

The most common ones, the manual sharpners, can be of the following kinds:

Mechanical sharpeners: a portable variety, usually small and in the shape of a rectangular prism. The blade inside rotates around the pencil, sharpening it. The shavings emerge through a slot.

Blade sharpeners: small and portable, hold replaceable shaving razor blades or permanently fitted blades. They work similarly to knives, but in a more convenient and safe way.

Cylindrical cutters: larger variety, stationary, powered by a crank. One hand holds the pencil, the other turns the crank.

Another common pencil sharpener found often in offices is the electric sharpener. It works on the same principle as the manual sharpener, but the blade rotates quickly thanks to an electric motor, either powered by batteries or plugged into the electrical system.

There are still people, mainly artists, that sharpen their pencils with a knife.

I have just had all the blades sharpened for my clippers but they won't cut my dog's fur. Never had a problem before. Can you please help?

It is common to that a Blade Sharpening Service return your blades just as blunt as before, or even worse.
I advise that you try a new Blade Sharpening Service; trying out only a couple blades to begin with.
I recommend a mobile/on-site sharpening service.

I have an Andis outliner II I purchased a year ago. I recently changed the blade but it won't cut my hair. Do you kow why?

Sometimes the new blades from Andis are not sharpen enough to get that clean cut. also all trimmers need to be readjusted for power and alignment, plus sharpening the blade, it look like you need a complete sharpen & service on your Andis trimmer. check out Manny's Sharpening they have a Mail Order service, the service they provide is fast and they will sharpen make all the adjustment and give your trimmer more power and the blade will cut clean. They will even adjust the blade at your request on how you want that blade to be set at. Line Ups or Fade Cuts and even shave set. Manny's Sharpening been around for over 20 years and they have a very good rating on the net. Check it out Manny's Sharpening

Can i sharpen my electic trimmers using sandpaper

Things You'll Need: Three-sided blade sharpener (coarse, medium, fine) Small flat head screwdriver step 1 Using the flat head screwdriver, unscrew the trimmer blades and remove them carefully. Wipe off any oil, grime or dirt that has built up on them as this may make it more difficult to handle and keep them in place during the manual portion of the sharpening process. Step 2 Separate the blades and re-apply only the moving blade to the tension spring. Then apply the moving blade to sharpener surface and turn the clippers or trimmers on. Hold the moving blade on the surface of the sharpener and apply light pressure while moving the blade back and forth for one to two minutes. You can also lay the blade on the sharpener first, then put the trimmer tension spring directly on the blade. Step 3 Turn off the clippers and remove the moving blade. It should look shiny and feel sharper. Step 4 Remove the guide from the guide blade by unscrewing it using the flat head screwdriver. Place the guide blade on the sharpening surface and manually run it back and forth for about one or two minutes or until it's been sharpened to your satisfaction. Screw the guide back onto the guide blade while being careful to readjust it before you tighten the screws. Step 5 Screw all the blades back on the trimmers and power them on to make sure they've been fitted correctly. Test them on your own hair to make sure they've been sharpened correctly and are set to the desired depth. Ads by Google Best Knife Sharpener Sharpen like the pros. Complete kit w/ 1x30 belt sander. If they are very dull, you will want to start with the coarse or medium side of the sharpener. If they just need a small amount of sharpening, use the fine side. If you've never sharpened electric trimmers before, you may want to visually observe and feel the sharpness of the blades with your fingers before you start to sharpen it. It may be hard to tell if the blades are sharp enough if you don't feel them just before you apply them to the sharpening surface.

Doesn't cut. we sharpened, we cleaned, it's

Most likely, the blades were not adequately sharpened. To effectively sharpen these type blades, you need a special sharpening wheel designed for this task. If you have attempted to sharpen them on a sharpening stone or other device or you are not sufficiently knowledgeable in sharpening these blades, you probably have not satisfactorily sharpened them. Often, attempting to sharpen without the correct equipment makes them worse than when you started.

Hi, used a blade sharpener for my a2 horse clipper blades and they are still blunt. Do i sharpen between the teeth

no . The blades are sharpened by grinding away the base of the wear until the edges between the teeth are sharp. It also necessary for the tension between the cutting blades is correct other wise the cutting teeth ride up over the hair and will not cut. Have a person who does sharpening of knives ,scissors and blades sharpen the clippers for you as the machine will get it right.
