My computer screen continuously turns black and the only way to get it back to normal is to press the little rubber button near the power button. After it returns to normal, it turns black within 5 seconds, so I have to keep pressing the rubber thing (sorry, I don't know what that's called). My computer is the Acer Aspire 5100. Can you please help me?

I think the little rubber button must be the one in the lower corner of the plastic face that goes around the screen? If so you have one of several problems.

1. That little rubber button is a screw cover and it conceals a small Phillips head screw that may be loose and shorting the wire that carries the signal to your screen. Gently pry out the little button and carefully tighten the screw.

2. If that doesn't solve your problem, here is the first of the further possibilities. A little panel behind that same screen border of plastic (it called the "bezel") named the "inverter" has a loose plug or is wearing out.

3. The LCD (screen) has a plug attached to the wire that runs by the screw behind the bumper which is loose inside where it plugs into the motherboard.

These problems need to be checked by someone very familiar with taking apart and repairing laptops. But at least now, you know what the problem might be and can talk to a repair guy about it and not get taken advantage of.

Best of Luck!

It should be a loose connection. Try to get it repaired from the nearest computer shop or contact acer support

My Nextbook model NX785QC8G freezes when you turn it on. How do I reset it to the factory settings? I have looked, but have not found a reset button.

Check http://support.nextbookusa.com/support/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/84/0/reset-instructions-for-nx785qc8g.

1. Hold down the Volume (+) and the Power button at the same time, until you see No Command on your screen. (The tablet will act like it's going to turn on and go black, continue to hold your buttons until No Command shows up on your screen)
2. Release your buttons when you see the No Command appear on your screen.
3. Tap the Volume (+) once, and a blue menu will appear on your screen.
4. You will use the Volume (-) to navigate and the Power to select. Tap theVolume (-) until you highlight "Wipe Data Factory Reset"
4. Press your Power button to select it.
5. You will see a list of "No's" and one "Yes." Use the Volume (-) to go to the onlyYES on your screen.
6. Press your Power button to select the Yes.
7. This will prompt your tablet to go through the motions of resetting itself. When you see the words ''Wipe Data Complete", tap your Power button once to selectReboot System Now.
8. Your tablet will power off and power back up on its own; this will take a little longer than normal, so give it a couple minutes before it boots.

Hi Malan Mutshina,

Request you to try following the below steps which might help:
    (1)Turn off the computer.
(2)Remove all the external peripherals like AC Adaptor, flash drives, battery, etc.
(3)Press and hold the power button for 30sec which releases the static on the computer (if any)
(4)Put back the battery and plug in the AC Adaptor.
(5)Let the computer charge for some time.
Now try turning on the computer. If still same issue then check if there are any series of beep codes emitted from the computer and see if there is a Power/ Battery status light glowing near the front (touchpad) of the computer.

    Thanks and Regards.

Sounds like your battery is shot. If it goes to far past dead, it will not power up even plugged in. Go to a battery store/Best Buy etc. and see if they have one you can use to try. Certain battery types can not go under 25% of a charge or they will not charge again correctly and vice versa. Just a short in the dark but hope that fixes your problem

Black screen

You may have accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off to save battery power. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place to center your pictures (that little glass peephole near the top of your camera). Try pressing the DISP button once to see if it turns the screen back on.

Monitor black screen

Your first step in troubleshooting this problem is to plug in another monitor to your computer. If you are having the same problem it is related to your computer. If the second monitor works fine then your original monitor is shot.

Notebook System Crash

Hey there SeanJohn79, have you tried hooking an external monitor to your laptop. You can move the video output back and forth, from external, LCD + external, LCD using Fn + F7. Hopefully this will allow you to see the necessary info for diagnosing the problem. Good Luck. Keep us posted! In case you are not aware, these are some display related key functions:
Fn + F3 = turn off lcd
Fn + F8 =Switch computer screen size
Fn + F12 =Hibernation mode, power for 4 secs releases.
Fn + F4 = Standby mode, press Fn key to return to normal
If you haven't tried switching some of these, give it a shot.
