We're not getting any sound from the dvd's. I have two cables (green/blue/red) and (red/white). but I'm at a loss how to connect from DVD to TV. Help please!

If your TV has the green, blue, red inputs then connect these 3 cables for the picture. DVD to TV, green to green, blue to blue and red to red. If your TV only has a yellow input, then connect the green cable only from the DVD yellow to the TV yellow. Now for the sound. Connect the DVD white to the TV white. Connect the DVD red to the TV red with the red cable. The white and red inputs will be next to the yellow and the green, blue, red inputs on the TV. Next select the TV input using your TV remote. Select the input for the DVD connection.

SOURCE: dvd won't send picture/audio to tv

for video, 3ways and any of this should work.
Step1, video out of dvd to video in on top at video1 section on tv. or
Step2, svideo out of dvd to svideo in at video1 section on tv. or
Step3. using component video DVD unit component video out to TV unit component video in at video2 Y to Y input of TV Pb to Pb input of TV Pr to Pr input of TV
for audio, connect left/right audio of dvd to left/right input of tv. Input section of TV is in the middle. on tv back panel from left to right is antenna input, IN section - this is it, use this for all your connections. let us know if you have any issues. thanks.

Connect yellow video from DVD to TV. Connect white audio and red audio from DVD to TV. These will be next to yellow jack. That is all the connections you need for picture and sound. Use RCA cables available at Radio Shack or Wal Mart.

Do one thing connect the composite video and enter in to the setup menu of Toshiba DVD/DVR. Browse in the menu for the video output system format (color system). If you are in US then select the setting to NTSC. If there is no such setting in the DVDDVR then it is not compactable with the new tv.

How to hook up Cables
Depends on what kind of cables you use. If you use an HDMI cable, then you simply connect one end to the DVD player to an unused HDMI port on the TV. If you are using a 5 cable Hi Def cable then you connect the outputs of the DVD player to the inputs of the TV color for color Red to red, blue to blue, green to green and red and white cables for the audio. If you are only using a cable with 3 connections, then yellow is for video out from the DVD to component in on the TV and then the red and white cables for the audio.

The picture is green
Make sure that the unit is connected to the tv properly. Be aware that most dvd players have six connections. You can connect the unit to the television using RCA cables (yellow, white, red) or RCA sound with component video (white, red, blue, green, and red). When using the yellow-white-red method, the sound is carried by the white and red cables and the video signal is carried by the yellow cable. If you're using the white-red-blue-green-red method, the white and one of the red cables carries the sound, and the blue-green-red cable carries the video signal. This connection uses one cable for the green component of the picture, one for the blue, and one for the red. Make sure that the cables are connected properly and you don't have the two red ones mixed up. Connect Sound-R to Sound-R, component R to component R, etc. If that doesn't work, you may be able to adjust the picture on the tv. There's still a chance that the machine is defective.

Your TV probably has several different ways of connecting video. One is component, which uses three cables. They are red, green, and blue (RGB). The video output on your DVD player will match this color scheme.

Another scheme for video is composite (because it combines the red, green, and blue into one cable). Composite video is usually a yellow "socket". It is simpler to connect, but the video quality is noticeably poorer than component (RGB).

Another scheme is S-Video. This is one cable (round and black), but you will see four pins inside the connector (and four holes in the "socket"). This accounts for the three cables in the component scheme with the convenience of having only one cable. The picture quality is almost as good as component as well.

In your case, there may be confusion between composite and component. If you have red, green, and blue sockets on both the DVD and TV, then make sure you use them and connect them color for color.

Now for the sound, this is simpler. Red is the right channel, and white is the left. Make sure you connect red to red and white to white. Then, viola, everything will be right.

OK no problem here. I can help. First reconnect the DVD Player to the tv using the Compoment cables. Match Green to Green,Red to Red and Blue to Blue.. If this is done correctly then you will have normal looking picture. If the picture looks like it is missing the RED color then switch both Red cables. The pix should look normal. Then connect the RED and White audio cables to the audio inputs . Now the Pinkish color is a result of the DVD Player not being set to the "Progressive" setting in the DVD Player Menu. It will help to connect a set of COMPOSITE cables from the DVD Player to the TV's Composite Input. Those are the Yellow,Red and White inputs on both the tv and the DVD Player. This will allow you to see the DVD player menu in case you cannot see the menu while in the Component input. The Pinkish picture should go to a Normal picture.

hey I think you need to use component cables blue green red from the player to the tv, make sure the blue green red ports are also on the tv, note: red yellow white composite cable will not interchange with blue green red component cable or connection.

simplify- blue green red= component
red white yellow=composite

*wires must match colors on both tv and player inputs.

then set your input on your tv to where you conected the cable.

How to connect to TV
The Yellow/Red/White connectors are Composite+Audio
Yellow carries a composite signal and Red and White Carry left and right audio channels.

Red Green Blue Connectors are Component
Each coloured connector carries one 'component' of the picture

So yes, your extra set of red white yellow cables would be fine to use, just make sure you connect the same colors at each end red-red green-green blue-blue

However..... the red green blue only carry the video, you will still need to carry the Audio, this is usually done either by the red and white (L & R stereo) or your DVD may also have an optical or coaxial output to carry the sound. if there is no equivalent connector on the TV then you may be stuck swapping the red/white cables, usually though there would be 2 sets of red/white connectors one set to go with the yellow, one set to go with RGB.

DVD won't play movies in color
RCA cable connectors (red,white, yellow) are usually for an analog setup. You could still use these for "component" setup, but know the difference with color stamps as follows:

Component color stamps are "blue, green, red" ( blue is marked Pb, green is marked Y, red is marked Pr)

RCA color stamps your using are "red, white, yellow"

Here are the proper hook up method for "Component" using your "RCA" connectors:

On both the TV and DVD component setup:

Plug the red RCA fitting in the component port marked "Pr (red)

Plug the white RCA fitting in the component port marked "Pb (blue)

Plug the yellow RCA fitting in the component port marked "Y (green)


Be sure this setup is the same for the TV's component input ports, and the DVD's component output ports.

i-Note:

For optimum picture quality you may want to purchase component cables as the gage is thicker giving better impedance match resulting in better picture and sound quality.

You can use the following:

TV Connections:
  1. Composite (red, white, yellow)
  2. Component (red, blue, green)
  3. HDMI -
DVD Player Connections:

  1. Composite (red, white, yellow) - comes standard.
  2. Component (red, blue, green) if you have it.
  3. HDMI - if you have it
You can use any of those to connect the dvd player to the tv. You can use the remainder to connect the satilite box.
