We'll that happened to me also.. i researched and found if you goto apple.com and look up support for macbook. Look for .pdf macbook repair manuel. There you'll get start up procedures. turn off power. Then load start disk, hold down "alt/opt" button and then turn power on. Wait for a min or two and then you'll see your hard drive and start disk to choose from. Choose start disk and click enter. Be sure your disk isn't scratched.. i had that problem. Then wait... it takes awhile so be patient. You'll get the whole set up again. DONT ERASE YOUR PRIOR DISK!!! Thats where i screwed up! So.... you should be able to get what you want .. if not.. its a new hard drive you'll need to buy... i'm heading to Best Buy and the Geek Squad for my help!

good luck!

Most cases you only need to re-install the operating system.
try unscrewing the ram door in the battery compartment(will not void apple warranty) pull the tab to remove the hard drive then re-insert it,then piece back together.and power up to see if it is the same prob upon booting(that rules out a bad drive)if prob stays follow the steps to re-install the operating system

My MacBook Pro is stuck on the grey start up screen with the apple logo and a spinning circle. Sometimes it gets to a probationary circle with the spinning circle.

Unfortunately, this sounds like a problem with your hard drive/ logic board. To Fix This You Will Need To Go To The Apple Store And They Will Most Likely Have To Replace Or Repair It. the Process Takes About 2 Days - 1 Week (Just To Set Expectations.) :(

I bought Macbook air 11"

This exact same thing happened to me, the only way I got my laptop to work again was to reinstall the laptop's original operating system software. Follow the instructions on this website:
http://www.ehow.com/how_4894762_reset-apple-mac-book.html
By doing this your macbook should work again, but all information on your harddrive will be erased including non-standard applications such as word ect...

MacBook Desktop Lost My Desktop Folders

If the colour circle shows... find a tiny bit of wallpaper showing through the back, then click. Then, you should see it labled finder instead of preview. Next, click on the blue apple. If it doesn't happen immediatly, a dropdown bar will show in a couple minutes. In the dropout bar, click Force Quit. It usually takes 2 minutes for the Force Quit window to show up. It'll ask you what you want to force quit,  Look at the choices and force quit all of the ones that say: NOT RESPONDING. Then the computer will clear up for a while, in wich you can probably preview your pictures.

Mac notebook problem

It sounds like youre hard drive may be failing. Power it down and when you turn it on next, hold down the OPTION key ( should send you to start up manager ) right after you hit the power key. What do you see?
