I have the BA 790 computer speaker system, I recently noticed I am getting no sound from the left speaker (This cube is also the one that has the volume and bass controls on it). If I manipulate the co-axial plug in the back, I can get the right one to crackle or go out. The sub-woofer works fine.

SOURCE: Trouble with rear speakers

This may be a software issue. If you only had two speakers before, the software will not use the rear speakers.
Go to Control Panel. Click on "Sound and Audio Devices". Under the Volume Tab, at the bottom, you will see a picture roughly representing the type of speakers.
Click on the Advanced button.
Click on the arrow in the pick box, and choose Surround Speakrs or the 5.1 Speakers.
Click Okay. Try the speakers again.

SOURCE: sub woofer got weak

If there is an adjustment, turn up the subwoofer volume. After you started shaking the house somebody may have adjusted it for you.
Check your computer control panels volume too, cause they may have a subwoofer volume there too.
If there is an equalizer (software) then make sure the low frequencies are set properly (middle or above). Check for this in your computer audio control panels.

If there is no adjustment anywhere, take it back, 'cause it is busted. If it is too late to take it back, sent it to logitech for repair under warranty. If it is too late for that, go buy a new one.

SOURCE: I have the Boston Acoustics BA745 Computer Speaker

This could be because the speakers arn't getting a stereo signal, but first, double double TRIPLE check the wires are connected correctly. Iknow it sounds patronising but I don,t know if you are 8 or 80 years old and it's often best to go for the most obvious solution. afer making sure all connections are correct, have a look at the cable to the subwoofer - is there any damage to the cable or does the cable look like it may have been pulled - out from the sub or it's connection at the other end of the cable? Having eliminated the possibility of cable damage (it may be worth cheacking the cable to the pc) check various settings on your pc - are you getting sound from your other two speakers? if you are only getting sound from one of the left/right speakers and you're sure there's no physical failure with the speakers, then it's time to check your software. go to the little speaker ikon at the bottom right corner and right click. Select "Playback devices" select "speakers" and click "test" did you hear sound coming from the left speaker then the right? if yes then you definately have a problem with the sub. if no, click "properties" then "levels" and check the balance is set to the middle. If it is, then you should, again, suspect the speakers. Finally check the balance on your media player, if you use windows media player, go to "options" click "enhancements" then look for the balance control and make sure it's in the middle.
Finally, I would like to point-out that this particular speaker system is not known for having a loud subwoofer, put your ear against the hole in it and double check for anything happning inside (a crackling noise would indicate a danaged voice-coil.

Hope this helps.

I have a new PC with Vista installed. BA 745 do not work.

check to make sure you have the speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner. If you do, see if you can move the sound bar up and down. This will verify that you definitely have the right sound drivers installed and they got installed properly.

Make sure you have the speakers connected properly. Here is a setup poster to show you how. Follow this just to be sure

Once you verify this and the sound still doesn't work then it could be a problem with the speakers or the sound card or sound chipset (if you have integrated sound on the motherboard).

To verify whether its the sound card or sound chipset on the motherboard or whether it could be the speakers. Put the speakers on another machine that you know has the sound drivers installed and turn up the sound bard in the operating system thru the speaker icon. If you get sound then its a problem with your other computer. If you still dont' get sound then the sound speaker system is bad and would need to be replaced.

No sound

Try plugging in earphones to see if the problem is the speakers or the output from your computer. Also, your computer output may be low power output for powered speakers and your speakers are not compatable. You may also be plugged in to the wrong output on your computer.

My speakers will not play on my computer

Those speakers were originally supplied with Gateway computer system that had sound cards with digital outputs. While some versions had analog and digital sound inputs, most often the speakers had digital input only. The on-board sound in the eMachines is analog output only, so the speakers are most likely not compatible with your computer. If you want to use those speakers, you will need to locate a PCI sound card with digital output.

Left computer speaker is unpredictable

Take no offense but after 8 years, you got your moneys worth. Unless you're good with the soldering iron and schematics, call it a great investment and update your speaker system. I imagine your computer is newer than the speakers and you can take advantage of some 5.1 surround sound! It's really great if you do any gaming, too.
Since you'll probably be getting rid of them anyway, you might want to crack it open and see if there's any loose wiring that can be fixed.
Thanks for using Fixya.com. Please rate this tip accordingly. I wish there was a better solution but I usually get 5 years out of mine so I feel jealous. :-)
