I have just experienced the same problem while on vacation - very frustrating! Luckily my wife had a D60 so we could continue shooting. I checked the troubleshooting section of the manual and it advises to try firing the shutter. This did not clear the problem and indicates a camera malfunction, so I am arranging for the camera to go to a Nikon Service centre. It's very annoying as the camera is only 20 months old and has not been used heavily.

Nikon d80 camera shows err error, when shutter is pressed the amount of shots remaining, shows er07. shutter works, but no picture is taken. Bracketing sign is also on display and wont go off.l

failure of the aperture unit is the usual cause - usually the contacts for the phase switch have come loose from the gear. You can find info on this by searching for the problem on the internet, including how to repair it.

Shows err on display

try cutting power off and on. if not, try cutting off and then take lens off and put it back on, making sure it is on correctly. Make sure software is updated, you may have to send back to nikon for general maintenance, could need new shutter. Check to see how many photos have been taken on the camera. There is software to do this. Full life is 50,000 some say 100,000 is more likely. If you use it hard, you could need new shutter.

HiI am sorry to hear, but you will have to some professional. Regarding your d80 has common problem of sequence unit defective. I believe that is the problem and your local repair shop would charge around $75 to 235 depend on what they really want to charge. Thanks and best regard!

I have a Nikon D80 and one day, I suddenly couldn't take pictures. When I turn my camera on, it automatically blinks the Err message. My shutter mechanics work fine, it recognizes my lenses, and playback...

Had same problems. The shutter is faulty although my D80 only registered about 2,000 shots.

Get it fixed at Nikon Service Center. It's your only option. Cost me $120.

Control Panel display no information.

Do you mean the control panel on top or the big LCD on the back?

The display on top should be showing you stuff like the shutter speed and aperture as you take the picture.

The display on the back will not show you the picture while you're taking it. The D80 does not have a Live View capability.
