Stuttering Start Up....

When I turn on my Sony Trinitron Wega, it clicks, we then hear sound, then it seems to abort the start up process with no picture then it seems to try again without me doing anything.
Eventually, the TV picture does come on, but takes about 4/5 goes and a few minuites to do it.
Is this the beginning of the end of my TV? I have had it for about 3 years and would expect a Sony to perform better than this.
A friend of mine has the same TV, which has started doing exactly the same thing!

This tv do loose connections on power supply or horizontal area. Some time bad capacitors in power supply. Maybe just need be resolder connections. Or try to find electronic cooler spray in use on power supply area , you will see changes on you original problem.

Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

My 34" SONY Trinitron WEGA won't turn on. It make a sound like it's starting then I hear a click and it's gone. The screen never lights up. Randy Kessinger

I have a Sony Wega KV-34HS420 TV that takes several tries to turn on. When I push the power button or remote power on I hear the normal click and the sound comes on for 3-5 seconds but then I hear a second...

Since the set appears to "recover", it suggests either a poor solder connection or bad cap somewhere in the power supply. The 7 blinks indicate the problem circuit is in the horizontal area. Check the regulator (STRxxxx) IC in the power supply. If you do not have experience working with TVs, please refer this repair to a shop. The regulator IC costs around $25.

It take 5 minutes to turn on the Sony Wega

There are some components that are off spec from age. When the circuit board heats up they are drifting back in to spec from thermo reaction and start to function.

The set can be serviced, but it can be expensive in relation to replacing it.
