Print out the current configuration of the printer, Press the Tick button, navigate to Information, press the tick button, navigate to Print Configuration, press tick button.

On the printout find the current IP address. Open a web browser and type the IP address into the address bar, press enter.

The printer setup will be loaded into the web brower. Navigate to the network configuration so you can see the IP, gateway and subnet IP addresses.

You can now change these but once you have your browser dispay of the printer will disappear.

Type the new IP address into the web browsers address bar and you should get the new configuration displayed.

Error timeout

download the user manual and look under 'setting timeout'
a function that can adjust the cutoff point - having said that I have never had to adjust the factory setting - I've allways found the error to be with the customer nertwork usually a conflicting ip address or poorly setup network
if you want to be sure that its nmot your network try pinging the printer via a dos window and have a look at the response time anything less than 100ms is good enough( usually 0.1ms) and if that is what you get when pinging then look at the network and not the printer

Not able to change the default gateway. It just takes what ever the IP address is

Are you using DHCP to obtain the IP address? If so, typically the gateway will be automatically assigned, and if the DHCP server does not have a gateway programmed in the printer will default to it's own address. Change the IP setup to manual and you will be able to put in any address you want for the gateway.

My network printer not taking ipadress as i have provided static ip through laptop.is there any settings in printer to add ip address . thanks , kalyan

First, make sure you have plugged in a network cable CAT5 or CAT6 into the printer's network card (if you don't have one, then you can't use it as a network printer). Also, the network cable should go to a switch, hub or router.
Second, the IP address needs to be set on the printer, not through laptop. You should browse to the menus of the printer, until you find a menu Network, under this menu you should have TCP/IP sub-menu where you need to set the IP address, also there must be a Subnet Mask sub-menu and a Gateway sub-menu. This two options should be set up as well.

Need to move networked HP 4250 n from one IP scope to another

Yes. On the front panel menu, go to the I/O submenu and under that submenu you'll want the embedded jetdirect menu. This is where the network settings can be configured.
