I have the same problem and here is my troubleshooting steps I took.

1) Verified that the unit had no output with induction meter on cables coming out of top of generator head (three black and three white). You can use a volt meter too.
2) Checked that brushes were free and long enough.
3) Checked capacitor (condenser) was 130uF
4) Checked diodes

    5) Checked for 6 volt DC across brushes while running. If not there you have to use battery to reestablish it. Not difficult and proceedure in your manual.
    6) Checked resistance across rotor windings. Infinite ohms means open winding. That's my problem.

No AC out put

After working on several of this style coleman generator,i have found that the lead wires in the windings that are soldered to where your brushes would contact tend to break.I don't know if it's a poor design or just a fluke,i would check to see if your getting continuity on the rotor and go from there. They seem to either "burn off" or just break.

I have a Powermate 5500W, Model PM0645500. The gas engine runs fine, but there is no power output. What can I do?

Sometimes you have to restore the magnetic field in the generator.
Look at the end of the generator....do you see a small + and - ?
You may have to take a cover off.
Take a small 9 volt battery and connect it to theses connections just for a moment.
With everything back together start her up and plug something in to the A/C output.
There is a 75% chance it will work fine now.

I have a Coleman Vantage 3500 motor runs no generator output

This sound like a loss of residual magnetism in the generator. The field will need to be "flashed".This is also known as re-exciting the field of the generator.
The Coleman manual gives these steps:
1Use a 6 Volt lantern batters (dry cell) or a 12 Volt automotive battery.
2.Disconnect all loads from generator.
3. Remove the brush cover (that's the rectangular plastic cover on the end of the generator.)
4. Plug a lamp or light into the generator before starting the engine. The light will illuminlate when ?Voltage has returned.
5. Start the engine with no load connected to the generator.
6. Attach the "-" lead of the battery to the negative brush. Very briefly touch the "+" lead of the battery to the positive brush. Remove as soon as Voltage builds up.

There is absolutely no voltage output. What

My generator has a switch to turn on the output, you must turn it "ON" to get power.

Guardian model #004722-0 liquid cooled generator. In manual or auto mode engine starts fine, then after about 15 seconds starter engages again while motor is running, then after about 10 sec. starter...

Hi Mike,
Your particular model generator uses the output of the generator to decide if the engine is running or not. You need to look at wires S15 and S16 at the control board to see if you're getting 120VAC while the generator is running. A quick simple test is to just see if there is output at the power wires that go to the transfer switch from the generator. The thing you don't say that ought to be happening is that the control board should crank the engine 3 times with a 15 sec or so pause in between crank attempts, then it should shut down and light up the "fault" lamp and quit.
Bottom line is that if you're getting 240 VAC across the output at the breaker, you've probably got a bad controller or wiring to it broken, otherwise you've got some kind of excitation problem keeping you from making electricity.

Regards,
Carl
