Check if there is a rounded area in one side of your touchpad. Tap it twice and it should unlock your track pad.

My ph pavilion dv7 touch pad's light is off, what must I do to get it on again?

Looking at a picture of the laptop, it is like most HP computers. There is a button directly above the touch pad. This is your on/off button. Press it and wait a few seconds, and the light should turn blue.

How do I disable screen rotation on a HP Pavilion dv7. I don't know exactly what causes the screen to rotate, but it always happens when I'm typing something. It is hard to get the mouse to...

NO OS stated, this XP? the virus magnet?

sounds like the post is how to get the mouse pad on the top
of the laptop working right, that it?
first use any USB mouse made, plug it in, get it to work
then fix the PC using a REAL MOUSE.

the mouse pads fail because the driver, is missing or wrong.
NO OS stated, at all so how can any one help you lacking such a key fact.
but if you did use the mouse external USB.
and did go to device manager using the mouse
and did change the driver on the MOUSE pad, to the one
that is on HP site, it would work (if not damaged)
no full model stated so cant show exact pages

see here why DV7 means Zero">

29 models made.
lets say you said - dash 1000.
id say
go here
then you said, windows 7-32bit.
and id show this. (show at tell , like kids do)

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-dv7-1000-entertainment-notebook-pc-series/3744231

then find the mouse driver,

sp45623.exe (27.6 MB)

When I tap on the touch pad on a HP Pavilion dv7 cursor jumps

The touchpad is installed on HP notebook PCs.
You can "tap" and "double tap" your touchpad with your finger, and interact with the operating system in exactly the same way as clicking and double clicking on your mouse.
When using touchpad on your notebook PC, the cursor may jump, flicker, or double-click by itself.

Follow the recommendations in that HP document, or "disable" the TouchPad, if you don't like what it does.

Keyboard/mouse on HP Pavilion dv7-1240us is not working

go to start, control panel, performance and maintanance, system, hardware, device manager. If you see any question marks on any of the devices, then you need to reinstall the drivers for that device, but if there are no warnings then you may need check into it further.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1232nr, the mute button and the wireless button on the top touch pad has quit working along with the volume slider. Any suggestions?

My mute button on my hp pavilion dv7-1262us stopped working after I updated my IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC through Microsoft update. The volume worked but the button stayed orange. I went to Device Manager- Sound, video and game controllers then IDT Audio CODEC. Click the Driver tab then click the Roll Back Driver button. This rolled the driver back to an older version but it fixed the problem. This is a Vista machine. Hope this helps.

TOUCH PAD DOES NOT RESPOND ON MY PAVILION DV7 1130US LOOSE CABLE POSSIBLY?

I don't think the cable is loose but the cable could go bad. touch pad circuit board could be bad or the mother board. You have to treat it like a science project and these are the steps i would go if you want it back to normal. Replace the hole palm rest area if that doesnt fix it then the mother board. you could get a usb mouse also look in the control panel and look for the mouse and there is a troubleshoot area.

My laptop keeps having the menue pop up as if I have right clicked on the mouse but I have not

Try just using the touch pad after disconnecting your mouse.
If that works, you've got a bad mouse. Replace it.
