My daughter bought me an Alessi cordless kettle for Christmas 2008. After 9 months it simply stopped heating water! The red light was lit on the base, so we knew the fuse hadn't gone, but it was completely 'dead'. We contacted Alessi and were instructed to return it to a shop called 'Atomic' in Nottingham. It took over ten weeks for a replacement kettle to arrive. Now exactly the same thing has happened to the replacement...when I switched it on it last night it 'tripped' my electricity supply. I tried it again today and...nothing. The light is on, but it isn't heating up. Is this a known problem with this kettle? I feel that, at over £100 it is the biggest white elephant I've ever owned. I presume I have no redress under the terms of the original guarantee, since the first product was purchased in December 2008. Is it destined for the recycling centre at just over one year old?

Have you tried using it on a different socket outlet ? Possibly there is a problem with the wiring at this socket.
If the electricity supply "trips" at the consumer unit it is either the RCD which trips due to e.g. the base of the kettle becoming wet or alternatively the MCB tripping due to an overload which shouldn't happen unless there is a fault in the kettle.
When you got a replacement kettle presumably they replaced the base also?

Alessi Kettle light comes on but wont boil

I have seen an open heating element, or a thermo fuse cause this type of fault.

It blew my fuse box, i have changed the fuse the light comes on but it is not heating up approx 5 years old

This happened to my Alessi kettle also. I changed the fuse in the plug but the kettle is dead! Red lights are on but the heating element in gone. From what i can gather parts are not available to fix it.

MG32 Cordless Electric Kettle: Power light shows on my kettle but water does not...

sounds like there's water in the element. Empty it out and let it dry out completely for a few days, and then try it again.
If the element is a concealed element (ie- you can't see the coils when you open the lid up) then there's probably a water leak into the sealed compartment.
Contact the manufacturer for a recommended repairer.

Alessi Electric kettle

The switch is most likely defective and has to be changed. It is also possible that the heating element is pulling too much current and also has to be changed.

An appliance service tech would have the tools to test the kettle and determine the exact fault.
