My XPS 200 wont power on checked all the obvious the pilot light inside is on and blinking green so its getting power.. just won't turn on
SOURCE: power problem
Hi, Sorry for the delay, my own system was down
and full of gremlins with matches, so I had to re-build it.
Most power supplies have a dedicated wire in the main
mother-board connector, I believe it is green. When this
wire is grounded, the power-supply is turned on.
You can do this with a paper clip to test the power supply,
after disconnecting the supply from all other devices, including
the main board.
---
Also you can test the front panel power switch with a continuity
checker / ohm meter to see if it shorts to ground when you press
the switch.
The front switch connects to the main board, along with the
reset, speaker and other functions through a set of small
connectors near the corner of the main board.
---
you DO want to check the manuals for the mother board,
power supply and case if you still have them, other wise
google the model numbers, to make sure you have identified
the correct pins before poking around causing more damage.
If you are replacing the power supply, get a big one, such as
the Xigmatek 1000w. It is worth every penny in preventing
future headaches. Especially if you plan to use fancy
video cards for gaming, a large number of fans, or
hard drives.
Good luck,
Martin.
