Technics Sl-1210 MK2 GOES MONO

Hey my 1210 goes mono from time to time, any suggestions ?? I hope that its only a pickup problem.

    Technics 1210 goes MONO intermittently.

I've noticed times when it is stereo and times when it is mono and can't figure out what the difference is. I've jiggled ever chord there is and have even taken apart the thing. From what I can see, nothing is loose or disconnected. I'd like to know how to test the different parts so I know what to attempt to replace. I'd rather do some trouble shooting then money spending...

Hey guy's, I did some GOOGLE-ing and found this: It doesn't make sense to me, but I think I can decode it with some other manuals and such. I found it on a page of other electrical problems that you might find useful if you have other turntable issues: http://www.divdev.fsnet.co.uk/repair3.htm

Technics SL1210 , 1979 ?

Intermittant loss of one channel.
The headshell was slightly loose on the tonearm
and moving inwards would cause loss of one channel.
To remove this arm undo the slotted lock ring at the very top
of the arm pivot and undo the central pin. The arm
with jiggling can then be removed assuming enough slack in
the signal wires. Undoing the 2 watchmakers screws near
the headshell allows removal of the 4 pin connector.
Presumably the wires inside the tone arm at this connector
could touch the inside of the tonearm and lead to
break in sprung connection. Placed a bit of brass shim
in the slack area and pushed back in to wedge tight.
Also removed the soft washer on the plug shaft of the headshell.

Alright, so my problem is fixed. The problem was DEFINITELY in the tone arm. I took the whole thing apart and nothing LOOKED wrong, but I went ahead and put it back together and started a record. Same thing. Only Left was playing. So I took the small jeweler's screwdriver that I had and pulled gently on the wires that you can see sticking out from the tone arm down into the base in order to put more tension on them.

IT WORKED! I don't know exactly what I jiggled...but I think EXTREME caution should be observed here in case you pull something out and then you have a REAL problem.

Check to make sure you have a nice solid connection on your tonearm from your cartridge. The problem is either your tonearm or your RCA (red/white) cables.

Neither are easy repairs, unless you have soldering skills/experience. The tonearm replacement is the more difficult and more costly of the two.

Parts for the unit can be purchased HERE. If you have any questions about testing your unit on the exact cause, please feel free to give our TECHS a call - they are available 24/7 for your convenience @ 1.866.668.1596 ext 1

My turntable has no sound when my mixer is switch to the 'stereo' setting however when I switch it to 'mono' its a low or bad sound quality. Why is that?

At the back of your mixer you should have a switch to change the frequency for a turntable. Also make sure you have the turntable's earth (ground) wire connected.

Technics 1210 MK2 - unstable/uneven speed problem

Since this is a direct-drive turntable, it isn't a slipping or stretched belt. You will need a technician with a couple pieces of equipment and some experience/training to find the source of the problem. I suspect the part(s) will be the minor cost of the repair.

Technics sl 1210 will not start up

did you ever open the turntable. It sounds like the on/off switch is bad. Remove the platter and screws with a phillips screw driver and just make sure the connections are in place. make sure you disconnect the power first. let me know what happens afterwards.

Technics sl 1210 MK2 does not start

Your switch probably went bad. Does it not respond at all? Does the button at least 'bounce' back when you press it? If not, then you might have messed something up when putting it back together.

1210 mk2 only playing through left speaker checked everything and needs new rca phono lead how easy is it to change thanks

If you have done some soldiering and have a steady hand, it's not difficult. If you are not sure, you could destroy that little circuit board that the lead runs to, and technics had discontinued production of that part. I'd say get it done by a pro with experience.

These guys are top notch:
