I had dust specks on my d 40 images. I cleaned the lense front and back with lens cleaning fluid and lens cloth and have blown compressed air into the body with the lens raised. Now I have more specks. What can I do?

Please never use cleaning fluids, unless they are delivered with the camera (it never happens)
To clean all lenses, first make sure you have blown off all dust and sand, You even can use a bellow with a little brush. Then use the lens pen if there is some grease on the front surface.
Lens pen has a little soft dome shaped point, with a soft coating. The coating is like microfiber cloth, but even finer.

When you are sure there is no sand on the lens, you could try a new microfiber cloth, but the best would be they sell in an optician shop. The ones you use for cleaning glasses. But don't try to press it to the side of the lens with anything that could damage the coating of the lens. Once the coating is damaged (scratch, or worse with a cleaning fluid) the lens will never be as clear and good in the colours as it ever was.

dont worry about dust too much unless it actually affects your image sensor.check it by pointing to a white wall or sky with f put to it maximum like 32/22 , focus and take pictures.. if its problem with the lens then it will make prominent dark speckles on the image.. but if you get dark speckles even at lower f - stops like 1.4/3.5/5.6 then its dust in the sensor.

dont try cleaning your sensor yourself as you may spoil it and finally have to refer a service center of the brand .

1. Carefully clean your binoculars by firstly removing any dirt or dust from the main body and straps using a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid the lenses at this point using any form of cloth on the lenses before removing all dirt and dust particles first could destroy them.

1. Gently remove all traces of grit, dirt or dust particles from the lenses using a soft lens brush or canned air specifically designed for the purpose.

1. Waterproof binoculars can be rinsed gently under a tap but be sure to use on lightly running water, avoid high pressure water as it could damage your binoculars.

1. Gently remove any remaining marks using lens cleaning tools such as a lens pen or lens cleaning fluid and lens tissue. Do not be tempted to use kitchen towel or anything else lying around that is slightly rough and may scratch the surface of the lens, only use a lens pen, lens tissue or a lens cloth. Gently wipe the lens using a circular motion working from the centre of the lens to the outer edge. NEVER apply lens cleaning fluid directly onto the glass (always apply to the cloth) and always ensure that the lens cleaning fluid you are using is recommended for the type of lens coatings that have been applied to your binoculars (Do not use general household glass cleaning products or products designed to clean computer screens or glasses. Such products could destroy the lens coatings of your binoculars if used).

Clean the small front projection mirror. That mirror can get dust on it and will cause the projected image to appear dull and dim and cleaning that mirror will usually restore the brightness and crisp details in the image.

The spots can be in the inside of the lens settings to the CCD/imager.
If the cleaning of the lens is done well it can be a speck of dust logged in to the screen and having it on the image.
A careful cleaning in a dust proof set up is required.

The coatings cannot be replaced once damaged unless new lenses are fitted. Strictly speaking, they can, but it will cost far more than buying new lenses.

Without the coatings your binoculars will work just fine but under some lighting conditions you may notice a lack of image contrast and perhaps some lens flare. Under other lighting conditions a total lack of lens coatings can actually improve the image as more light can pass through the optics to your eyes. It's not a fault which usually merits replacing the binoculars.

Just use the cleaning cloth sparingly in future on any coated lenses: dust should just be blown off but small amounts make no practical difference and careful handling should prevent finger marks on the glass surfaces. Salt spray and errant finger marks should be removed using a lightly dampened lens cloth: de-ionised water with about 5% alcohol is ideal.

as i previously posted, my picture was dim, muddy looking after replacing lamp with osram lamp. i fixed mine by taking the screen off and cleaning the small mirror. it had a thick layer of dust on it, cleaned with a microfiber cloth. no water, no glass cleaners. i also used a very fine new small paint brush and dusted the projector lens which also had a dust film. brightness, contrast and clarity returned!

It is probably a speck of dust on the sensor. Get a blower from any camera shop, remove the lens,lock up the mirror (mirror lock up in camera menu) and give the sensor a good blow ( without touching it) while holding the camera front down so that any specks of dust fall away from the sensor. Sometimes specks can stick (pollen for example) in which case you could try a disposable swab and cleaning solution, although if unsure most camera shops provide the service pretty cheap - the sensor would be a lot more expensive to replace if you mess it up.

If you have a SLR camera you can take your lense off and clean it.. I do not reccoment canned air because if you do not use it the right way liquid will come out. At best buy they have cleaning kits, and in their kit they have a little brush that you can squeeze regular air and brush off anything on the lense or around the lense, If you have a SLR camera you might have a built in cleaning option... SLR means Single Lense Reflex and this means your lense can come off/interchangable..
