If you would like to make use of the SATA controller's AHCI features, you should enable this BIOS feature. But please note that enabling this feature requires you to load the SATA controller driver during the Windows XP installation routine.
If you do not intend to use the AHCI features, it's recommended that you disable this BIOS feature. This allows you to use the native Windows XP driver. You won't need to load the SATA controller driver during the Windows XP installation routine.

I replaced vista with xp on my Satellite L305D-S5895 and now it crashes during xp install. why?

This model Toshiba laptop has a SATA hard drive.

SATA HARD DRIVE - XP INSTALLATION
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive. http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335035-installing_windows_xp_sata_hard_drive

I have Toshiba Laptop L300. It does not install xp . however it easily install Window 7

Hi,

Probably because you have a SATA Hard Drive. If you want to install WIN XP, you may need to change your hard drive settings. For this go to the BIOS and change to Compatible Mode or IDE or Non SATA. The Reasons that WIN 7 install with no problems is because WIN 7 has already builtIn SATA drivers on it

Windows xp drivers for toshiba l505-s5990

Take some time to polish-up your resume', since any company that is telling you to "downgrade" is a Neanderthalic place to work, especially if they cannot supply you with the "correct" (in their limited vision) tools (namely a laptop running XP) to enable you to work for them.

Some computers have "designed for Vista" or "designed for Windows 7" decals. This means that the manufacturer will not create device-drivers for the hardware inside the computer for the "older" versions of Windows.

So, you may need to purchase an external USB WI-FI adapter,
which will be sold with a CD-ROM that has device-drivers for Windows XP, and install the drivers, then connect the USB device.

Hard disk not found error during Clean XP home Install

That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.

Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode. This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.

On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.

Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see:
Resolving "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows .

Install windows XP on toshiba satellite U300

Hello
The windows Xp installation doesent find your hardrive because you have a sata drive. you need to adjust the settings in the bios so the sata drive appears as a ordinary IDE drive(ide native) or something like that. search in the bios settings.
A other way is to burn a new winxp cd with the Toshiba Satellite U300, sata drivers.
download the http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Barts-PE-Builder.shtml
and download the toshiba harddrive drivers and creat a new cd.
but the simples way is to make the change in bios.
good luck
