Roland SC540 Printer

I have a roland fj 600 and was working fine.
two days ago when i switch it on and while showing processing on display and it will shut down with blank dispaly.

repeatly the same error ocur please help

OK, [email protected], you have it most right... However, we must look at what caused the problem in the first place. Now you addressed this when you said," take care of your printer". This is good. Before you spend money on this figure out what happened to cause this.

Make shur the media is feeding straight! Feed it out a few feet and then back again. Mark the media left and right side and watch for sideways moovement. Once you get it set straight, keep those marks and use them.

Media shift can be caused several ways. If the rollers in the back of the printer are not level with the printer the media will feed badly. This can be caused by lifting the printer using the media support arms as handles and lifting on them.

Media can also be rolled tight on one side and this can cause the media to shift as well.

The test print shows a very small rectangle for each port in the head. Maybe this is what you mean when you say one or two stripes missing? If you are missing one or two "dots" in each color, and they do not lign up in the scan, L/R direction, you can get away with it if you raise the head, and print in the low res option, while increasing the saturation. This or course will not match past jobs with the same file.

If your heads are worse... yes you will have to replace the whole head.

The use of Versaworks is only a matter of paying for the dongle "key" to allow it to work. About 1000.00$ US.

You actually have more controle with Color Rip and i quote from above,"if you use something like versaworks, you can adjust the quality only, but if you use colorip, you can set the print mode, quality, resolution etc....

So this part of the upgrade doesn't mean much. I will say VersaWorks is more frendly.

You don't switch head positions with an upgrade.

You only have to change heads when they are damaged or have outlived the time. You do not have to change switches on the mainboard.... I don't think... it's been a while.

Hey there, i have two printers, the SC-540, and a VP-540, I love both of them, as if they were my children, the thing is you have to take care of the printer, i dont know what machine you use, but if you have read the manual they continuously refer to the heads as consumables, and that you have to replace them from time to time, now that time depends on how well you look after your machine, i have used some heads less than 6 months bofore replacing, and some kept on working for more than 2 years. it sure is expensive, but you will defenitely see the difference, a short term solution for you problem is to print on a higher resolution, of higher quality. Now that all depends on the type of rip software you use, if you use something like versaworks, you can adjust the quality only, but if you use colorip, you can set the print mode, quality, resolution etc....

a higher resolution can sort out the stripes, but you cant just replace parts of the head, you have to replace the whole head, now, if you use the sc540, you have 6 heads, if you replace them, let the techinician upgrade your machine to the sc540EX, then you can print from versaworks, which is much easier to use than colorip, but you have less tuning options. When upgrading the machine to the EX, you have to switch head positions, so it makes it worth while to replace the heads and upgrade the machine. The upgrading is not supposed to cost a lot of money as it is merely a set of switches you have to set on the main board, but while you do that, you can just as well give it a major service and then you the high cost will be worth while.
