We have an Aquasmart top loader and our clothes, mainly dark items, are being covered by a scum after washing. We have put the machine through the clean cycle, but this has not made any difference.

I have found with my aquasmart that if you use the 'high efficiency' the water does not cover the clothes sufficiently which is why the soap residue (noticeable more on dark clothes) is visible. I don't use high efficiency. even on conventional sometimes I still have to check that the water level is high enough. Also **use only liquid, low sudsing detergent and do not put it on the clothes-use the dispenser only. As for my machine... Time for the repair man to check the sensing I think

K if you peel the door seal back a bit do you see any muck in there? Is there a musty smell inside the machine?
Add vinegar to the rinse cycle. Vinegar acts as a rinse agent to eliminate soapy residue. Put it into the cup intended for the fabric softener when you start the wash cycle. Use about 1/4 to 1/2 a cup, depending on your washing machine model. The vinegar is diluted enough that the clothes should not smell like vinegar after they come out of the washer.

  • 4 Eliminate excessive soap left on the clothes after the wash cycle has completed by running the clothes through another rinse cycle, preferably with vinegar added. If the soap build-up is very bad, run another full wash cycle without adding any more soap.
