1)Good day I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 server that I recently upgraded (Memory + CPU) the first sign of a problem was on the POST were an error was received that there is a CPU Hash Mismatch, so I upgraded the BIOS to the latest available "A07" now the POST does not report an error but still halts and displays "press F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup", I have checked and cannot see a problem in the BIOS.
2)The second and most troubling problem is the Server (OS: win2003 SP2-Exchange2003) will after a random amount of time "Hang" and I cannot even see a reason for the complete system hang in the event viewer? this normally happens after 2-3 days time, and being the Mailserver it is a huge problem.
The only way to reset the system is to hold the power button for 5 seconds "forced" shutdown.
Any help will greatly be appreciated....
Regards Ed
Hi the Power Supply also needs to be upgraded for the additional RAM and new CPU . Please look into this aspect. My opinion a slightly Overrated PS would be better .
Sp2 problems goto manage addon's disable browser helpers this has been major problem with sp2 since i had it and repaired comps with the problem easy fix
with cpu your hash mismatch you didnt sync the new cpu with windows
example= EB5F2726B5BE1FF98D236E28CBAD4B07C6D767AF <<< this is a hash the new one has not been recognized or removed one by windows so windows thinks its still running under the old hash you need to sync the new cpu and remove old hash threw windows update
this should clear up any hangups on the system
also remember *********** board may or may not update hash on its own in bios some you have to go in and set jumpers for new cpu so comp. can run at its best
some comps can automatically adjust to new cpu with out haven to go jumper divin find out which your comp requires jumper diven or no jumper diven
now with power supply
you really dont need a hearty power supply unless your running more hardware then the case can handle right now a 600 should be good but anymore hardware installs move to an 800 850 or better
p.s. darn key board make sure when you get your new bios to flash make sure you get it from trusted site cause not all bios's can be trusted they can be corrupted and this could be where you got your cpu hash mismatch
hash mismatch = corrupted file
becareful flashing the bios cause it can do damage to system it sucks when you have to replace a bad bios chip cause of failed corrupted flash
