Sounds like you need a new keyboard. You can get one from apple or a third party vendor. One thing you might try is re-installing the drivers for the keyboard.

If you were using a bluetooth keyboard, it may still be looking for that keyboard.

you have to open the whole top platform of this mac book.
it is attached with mousepad n key board... screws are on the both sides of the macbook and back of the macbook near hinges and also where battery is housing....

From your description it sounds like your alt key on your keyboard is sticking. Try tapping it a few times to get it moving, or get a can of compressed air and blow it around the sides of the keys. If your Macbook Air is still under warranty or is under AppleCare arrange an appointment with your local Apple Store and have it repaired professionally. Hope this helps.

try zapping the p-ram like this: power up, listen for chime, hold down control command P and R then wait for second chime. then release see if that fixes it.

try to connect your keyboard to the mac air while mac book is connected to internet (by wifi) then update your programs (apple menu - update).
