Hi There,
HP Support provides definitions and solutions for it's printers.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&docname=buu02549#Error386
At this site you can simply scroll down and click on the blue underlined link "388" which states,
"There is too much noise on the line for a valid connection between two fax machines to complete. The noise problem might go away over time."
"Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve."
Since you didn't state that you were having a problem sending faxes, I fear this is limit to which I can assist you. That being the case, please reserve negative feedback for HP if the solution isn't sufficient.
If the error persistes and you are not attempting to send a fax unsuccessfully, it would indicate a false error report and that your registry in your operating is a bit out of order where the printer is concerned and the best "final" solution would be to uninstall the printer from the Control Panel COMPLETELY, then hold down the WIndows logo key and press the R key. A Run window will appear. Type in %temp% and hit ENTER. Your Temp File folder's contents will appear. Left click one in that window and then hold down the CTRL key and hit the A key. All files will be selected. Hit the Delete key. Remove every file that Windows will allow and then close the window, Disconnect the printer from your computer. Then go here:

Select the correct version of your 6210 (there are 3). At the next page Download the Full Version software by saving it to your Desktop. Then double-click the software installation file and follow the prompts. Do not connect your printer until the software prompts you to do so.
Ciao for Now
