I have a minnkota maxxum 74lb thrust trolling motor. The pedal pin in the foot control keeps sliding out on one side and I have to push this back in to stabilize the pedal. Is there something broke/missing to keep this from happening? The pedal works fine, just a pain to keep pushing this in during the day while fishing. Thank you.

Good day ,
The next time the pin comes out have a close look at it if it has little raised grooves in it that is what is supposed to hold it in.
if so put a little lock tight on the pin and push it back in it should hold again
good luck
Gordy

SOURCE: what size batteries needed for minn kota 24 volt 74lb thrust

I use Red Hot Mama batteries. These have held up for longer than any other brands that I have used. These are deep cycle marine wet ones.

SOURCE: I need to replace the bearings in my Maxxum 65lb

If you never did this before , I strongly advise take it to a local shop....if you don't seal it correctly, you will end up buying a new one for water getting in.... I fix alot of things on my boat but not the trolling motor....your choice....GL

SOURCE: My trolling motor maxxum 74# thrust feels like i

Here's a schematic for your motor:
Maxxum 74 Bowmount
I suspect the the bearings and cups are damaged and binding the tubes. Have a look at key #'s95, 78, 58, 59, 78A, 79. as these are the actual brgs and cups.
Good luck on your repair!

SOURCE: burning out fuses on trolling motor at battery

not enough info. I went the the min kota website, they show four maxxum 80's at different voltages.is it a 12v 24v or larger? without a year model I'll have no reference to what wiring schematic Is the fuse connected inline with the trolling motor? what size amp fuse are you burning up? well I can give you some troubleshooting tips. tools to buy (1) amp gauge. if you are unfamilier with amp gauges make sure you get instruction book with gauge or you could burn yourself. Toubleshooting(1) Remove cover off minn kota trolling motor. black cover ontop of unit were the foot control wires go into.turn over foot control remove cover (2) check for corrosion. any exposed terminals should be cleaned.(3) go to your batteries and clean all connections. make sure the batteries are fully charged.(4) take amp gauge and test positive wire for amp draw as you tun on trollling motor and run it through all speeds. if batteries are in the rear away from trolling motor get a 2nd person to control trolling motor. if the trolling motor is more than a 12v system you will have more than one positive lead to test.GOAL. What your trying to find out is how many amps the trolling motor is really pulling. and at what speeds. under a load in the water and out of the water.how many more amps than the fuse raiting? newer trolling motors come with inline breakers not fuses so I'm guessing your using 30 amp fuses. again without more info i can only guess.

My trolling motor- 2007 70# Minnkota Powerdrive V2 seems to lose track of where it's at. I replaced both control boards and it still wanders off.

If you have already replaced the control boards and the trolling motor still seems to lose track of its location, there are a few other things you can check:
  1. The propeller may be damaged or bent, causing it to steer off course. Inspect the propeller for any visible damage and replace it if necessary.
  2. The motor's GPS sensor may not be functioning properly. Check to make sure the sensor is clean and free of debris. You can also try recalibrating the sensor according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  3. The wiring connections may be loose or corroded, causing intermittent power to the motor. Check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of corrosion, and clean or replace as necessary.
  4. The foot pedal or remote control may be malfunctioning, causing the motor to steer off course. Check the foot pedal or remote control for any damage or loose connections, and replace or repair as necessary.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to take your trolling motor to a professional repair shop for further diagnosis and repair.

Hard foot pedal

On the base of the foot pedal there is a tensioner for the cable. Try loosening or tightening that first. If you still have the manual from when you bought it, it is explained in deatil in there. It's a common issue - not to worry!

On a Minn Kota All Terrain trolling motor, what should the MOM/OFF/CON switch be set to when using the foot pedal manually?

You should only use the MOM (or momentary) setting when using the push button the foot pedal. Con will just keep the motor running and your foot control will only allow for direction and speed!

TOOK THE BOLTS OUT OF MINN KOTA AND CANT GET THEM IN. 2 SHORT.

Hi!
Here's a schematic:
Max 74 Bowmount
Make sure the end housing #7has a small mark in it pointed to the bottom (towards the skeg). The bolts can be a pain to line up!
Also make sure the armature is all the way forward it can go....past the brushes is the toughest part to get through and lined up. Keep it up, you'll get it!
Best of luck

How do you operate the motor? I have no details as to how the motor operates. Its a minn kota trolling motor that mounts on the front of my boat. I need to know how to operate the foot peddle.

The pedal has generally four functions:
1) Forward and back on the pedal make the motor go left and right (push forward to turn the motor right, push back to turn it left)
2) Momentary power - the little 'button' towards the top will engage the motor as long as you press down on it.
3) Selector Swith - on the side of the foot pedeal there is a switch with the following settings Con - Off - Mom (Continuous - keeps the motor going all the time, Off - well it's off and Mom - will only go when you press the momentary button).
4) Speed select - the knob on the left controlls how fast the motor goes.

It takes some getting used to but offers tremendous control and hands free operation!

Motor won't run

Look at the red indicator arrow when you hit the foot pedal. If it lights up, the motor should run. If not, inspect the splices under the top cover on the shaft. They will stop the motor if corroded or burnt.
