Nintendo NES Console Logo

Hi, My nes only displays a white screen when switched on with a game inserted. I have changed the 72 pin connector to one which I know works, cleaned the contact points the connector slides onto and used a game with clean contacts, which I know works. Still only a white screen. My thoughts are there must be a fault within the circuit, but which components should I look at (I have a dead system which does not power up I could canniblise parts from)? Again here I have checked to see if any components have poor solder joints and cannot see any problems. Can you help?

These symptoms are a pretty good indicator that it probably is your 72 pin connector that is grimy, pitted or too lose. The first option is to get a 72 pin connector cleaner. It's built like a NES game you put in and pull out to clean the pins. That works if the pins are not pitted or loose. You can pick one up for about 8 bucks or less. The second and (IMHO) best option is to replace your 74 pin connector. It's not that difficult, and can be accomplished with a Phillips screwdriver in about 10 -15 minutes. nesrepairshop.com supplies directions with the ones they sell and it's not hard. The pin connectors run about 10 bucks. I would go with replacing the connector or sending it in to a shop and have them do it for you if you don't want to attempt it.

I have 2 Nintendo NES systems. One I thought didn't work and needed the 72 pin piece changed, but when I turned it on the other day, it sort of worked. The people in the games came up with letters and...

Secret trick: take NES cartridge, press cartridge down and waggle the cartridge inside the NES and then hold the NES down and shove the cartridge onto the pins. An alternate solution is to take a Q tip, dip it in rubbing alcohol and clean out all the dust inside your game.

The red light flashes on my NES and on the TV screen, it keeps on changing colors. Do you know whats wrong?

The NES is touchy like that, sadly-- your problem isn't uncommon. My NES, and the NES of nearly every friend I have who still owns one, plays this little trick on them from time to time. Here's what we do:

1. Turn off the NES console.
2. Blow into bottom of the game, near the chip that connects to the NES.
3. Wipe away any excess dust from the game itself.
4. Blow into the console of the NES.
5. Wipe away any excess dust.
6. Re-insert the game and try again.

If this doesn't work, try placing the game in more delicately, or with more force. It's just a matter of trial and error, and sometimes it will work faster than others. Hope this helped!

I have changed the pin connector on my nes, it does not flash anymore but now i get a blank screen can someone help me?

First try connecting through the av ports on the side of the console rather than the RF port on the rear of the unit.

If that doesn't work then your problem is likely a loose connection inside, go back in and reassemble.

I have had this issue with several consoles; these two solutions usually take care of it, though in rare cases a defective 72 pin connector was at fault even though it was brand new.

Good luck.

Nes power light oes on and off

The nes does this to stop people from playing pirated games, but it can also be because the game cartridge or console is dirty. Try cleaning inside the game cartridge with a cotton bud dipped in a cleaning product of some kind. it mostly works for me!

NES console - white or green tv screen

first off flip your nes upside down and remove the screws to the cover of nes..... then flip your nintendo over and remove the cover.... remember you just voided your warranty for your nes..... then proceed to do the following:

find Chip 3193A and find the 4th pin on the left hand side near the blue coils. Remove or pull back the pin and your NES Will play Pal and NTCS games.

Please help! NES problem, and it's not the 72 pin connector.

It sounds like the pins on the game or the 72 pin connector in the console is dirty. Nornally the game connectors get dirty and when you put it in the console that transfers the dirt to the 72 pin connector. You need to purchase a cleaning kit from your local gamestop or other such store. Do Not Use Alcohol to clean your games or the console.

White dotted lines on screen of NES

Clean your games too once you replace the 72 pin connector or you're just dirtying it up again. Not to mention the games has enough crud to keep them from working correctly.

Nintendo NES Repair

It's as simple as unscrewing the console by removing all the screws from the bottom. Once inside take off the metal piece over the area where the game is inserted. Once under there you can remove the two screws that hold the 72 pin connector in and pull it out and slip a new one in. Put it back together in reverse.
