I have a DC14. About a wk ago it was making loud sound and bar stopped turning. i unclogged everything....now the suction works great. However, the bar still wont turn. The belt inside is still intact and isnt loose. Several solutions suggested resetting the "Red" button...i have searched the vacuum over and over. there is NO red or any other color reset button. The bar is set down perfectly in there, the cover plate is installed properly. What other problems could there be? Or do i just need to "**** it up" and take it in to a repair place?

SOURCE: I have a Dyson Animal. Roller bar won't turn/belt intact

Actually, I'm the poster who said I have the same problem, but it turns out I have the DC07 animal, not the DC14, but perhaps the solution is the same for the DC14 and it doesn't cost anything! I called DYSON and they told me the clutch needed to be reset, so she had me recline the vacuum from its upright position, lay it on it's side, turn the carpet/bare floor dial slowly back and forth between the two settings about 6 times and it apparently reset the clutch and now the cleaner bar spins normally and there's no more loud grinding-type noises. She said if that didn't work, the next step would be to remove the bottom protective panel (secured with the three large plastic screws) and lift the entire cleaner bar (do not remove the belt) out about an inch or so and then reinsert it and reattach the bottom plate. I hope this helps your problem. Good luck.

Have you accidentally switched off the beater bar via the dial on the head? Some models have a 'hard floors' and a 'carpets' setting (which disengages/engages the beater bar).

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The first check would be to see if the brush bar is turning when the machine is switched on and in the vacuuming position. To do this, release the head and lie the machine on its side. Switch it on and check the brush bar making sure long hair and fingers are kept out of the way.

If the brush bar is turning, you will need to check the machine thorugh for blockages and clean the pre filter as these are the most likely cause of a loss of performance.

If this does not resolve the problem or if the brush bar is still not turning, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards

With the DC14 in its upright position, and looking from the back, there is an access hatch just to the right and bottom of the dust canister. Remove this and check for any obstruction. With the hatch still removed, tilt the handle back (as if vacuuming a floor), and you should spot that the mechanism in to which the access hatch fits changes over from one hole to another. This is how suction is transfreered from the telescopic arm to the brush bar when the unit is taken out of the upright position.
With the handle tilted back, the hole you can see is one end of a flexible pipe that leads to the brush bar. Check for any blockage and/or foriegn objects. If there is no obvious problem, you'll need to check the other end of the pipe. You can do this by removing the toe plate on the bottom of the brush bar area. The plate is held by 3 or 4 half turn fasterners - a 5 pence piece is ideal for undoing these.

If still no joy, the only other thing it might be is that the brush bar isnt spinning - this isnt actually lack of suction, but without brush rotation any upright hoover is far less effieicnt at picking up bits from the floor. Brushes not spinning on a DC14 is quiet a difficult thing to fix on a DC14 as there are two separate rubber belts, one of which is hidden under a plastic cover. There is also a clutch mechanism between the belts that can cause problems some times.

My vacuum comes on and make loud noise but will not **** anything up

the vacuum is clogged either the hose or the canister. turn it upside down to unclog it if its in the hose, take the hose off and turn it around and put it back until your hear the suction sound like a big thump, then put your hand to cover the hose and feel if the suction got stronger, then replace the hose, if rhat doesnt work find something to push the clog thru the hose and periodically put the hose in to suction the clog out.

Dyson DC 14 lost suction to beater bar/ suction to hose/stick

My Dyson DC14 had no suction...see if this works...turn the Dyson upside down...there is a length of hose that connects the bottom of the vacuum to the top, careful remove one end of the hose and check for debris...mine was clogged. Removed the clog and voila...it works. Thanks for the above info on checking the hose for cracks.

DC07 works with the hose - but not when upright

Check the actual brush bar is moving. If it is then there's definately a clog and it could well be behind the beater bar. If you can remove the sole plate (which is the grid in front of the beater bar) then undo it and check dirt behind the beater bar, belt and main dust channel. Also check the main inspection air ways and if the beater bar is clogged with hair, clean it off.

Dyson DC14 all floors.

sept 30,08 bought dc14 all flloor. After 3 to 4 uses it started making lots of noise when on carpet setting. I examined the roller brush and it was cracked at one end. I returned it Oct 13 ,08 and got another dc 14 all floor. Now this one after 2 uses has the same problem only a larger crack in the brush and a small piece of the brush broke off. Very dissapointed.
