The adapter off the docking station can be faulty and so that must be checked for working voltage.
If there is voltage on the adapter then the socking station charging section can be faulty.
The failure of the regulator IC in the docking station cannot be ruled out. You will need to remove the docking station after making sure there is no voltage to the docking section to the phone.
There is nothing special to do to the docking station. I have had some problems with mine not charging also. What I do if not charging is remove the phone and reconnect. Also look to make sure the power cord did not make its way loose some how.

I actually had the same issue with mine.. it was 6 years old and just stopped finding the docking station. Also wouldnt take a charge. So I just eliminated the docking station. The stations power cord will charge the unit. Hope this helps.
I would suggest that you by-pass any docking stations and connect it directly via usb charger as most ipods do. And also, try to update Itunes and your Ipod Nano software.
for some **** reason the new ipod nano (4th generation) does not support FireWire and therefore will not charge on any docking station that is a FireWire power sorce - which seems to be most of them out there!
have same problem so will end up charging from computer as docking station still plays the new nano, no point in buying new docking station just for sake of charging!
docking station for my old compaq armada did not "charge seperately" but did supply power to the pc through docking connector and not through the normal ac input, cant say if they have their own power transformers or not, till i go home and take my old docking station apart. Will the computer not power up when plugged in, it normally will run off ac power even when battery is dead or removed.
