Blank Screen on HP Laptop

My laptop was working just fine yesterday afternoon. Last night, I turned it on and got white lines running the screen, the log on sound, and then a blank black screen. The battery is charged, and I tried turning it on while plugged in and unplugged from the wall. I tried using F8 for safe mode as well, and just get a blank screen. When I go to turn it off by pressing the power button, the blank screen goes away and I can see my desktop with all of my icons, and then it powers down. Any ideas?

Same thing but I am sure it overheated because I left it on an oriental rug. The computer works because I went to a different monitor. The screen is wacked.

Ok same thing happened to me but I left it on some plush carpet so it was hot when I picked it up. I reloaded all the drivers for the on screen by hooking up a different monitor. Yes everything works but the screen.

HP has identified a issue with the DV6000Z and monitor. I just reported the same problem to HP and even though off warranty, they will fix free. Power up of DV6000Z you will get 3 beeps and no monitor display. External monitor does not work either. This is a known issue woth the DV6000Z.

Can you check the function buttons and make sure the primary display is set to show the output on the laptop. Try repairing your OS. If not then re-install the os. As you are saying till the time windows gets loaded, all works fine so it seems the issue isn't really the hardware.

My HP DV5 1159se was working fine last night and then this morning I go to turn it on as usual and a blank white screen comes up. The start tones are the same and I could even type my password in to log on...

If the inverter board or the back light behind the screen were bad your display would be blank, "but windows would be visible barely" the white screen indicates a bad LCD and must be changed. It is also possible the video cable from the motherboard to the screen has come loose and will need to be reseated back into place to fix it.

Have you tried going to the BIOS? If you can see the BIOS screen there's video and the hard drive could be the issue. If you can't see anything but black screen you probably need to replace screen and or video invertor board.

Last night my Toshiba's screen turned white with a few red and yellow stripped lines. Than the white filled in with black over night. Now the screen is blank, the power button won't turn it off only on....

HI There,

I'm a pro laptop repair/rebuild tech. If you own an external regular computer monitor or even a friend who does, connect the laptop to the external monitor and power it on. Your Toshiba will have an F key with a little icon figure of a monitor on it. Hold down the fn key and press that F key to transfer the laptop display signal to the external monitor.

If the external monitor shows your normal laptop screen as it would usually display, you have a bad laptop LCD and some other (as yet) undetermined problem. If the external monitor is black just like the laptop, then yout video/graphics card has failed and since it's closely associated with power up issues at the beginning of the startup cycle, is interfering with the laptop's ability to run the operating system because it never gets that far.

From what you've described, you're going to have a choice of sending the laptop to a motherboard repair service (if you go to eBay and type "Motherboard Repair Laptop" in the search window you'll see many choices) for a price between $100 and $200 or need to start shopping for new laptop.

Remember, "don't shoot the messenger"!

Good Luck

Colored vertical lines on monitor

Have you unplugged the power cord to the LCD? Let it sit for a minute, then try it. ALWAYS buy a UPS and plug any computer devices into it. Doesn't have to be big, a $50 unit will protect it from dangerous voltage surges.

Phone screen goes blank to a grey color (externallY) .

same problem, broke my screen, ordered a new screen off ebay and replaced it. now it works fine most of the time but sometimes external display freezes. sometimes goes black, sometimes goes multicolor pixelated (full screen, in blocks, or lines) when this happens sometimes touchpad still works, others not. removing battery usualy temporarily fixes.

Pavilion dv6000t screen won't come on.

I had this exact problem with a customers computer andi found out that HP put faulty motherboards in the DV6000, DV9000, Compaq V6000 Series Computers. Thankfully HP fixing all computers for free and extending the warranty even if the warranty has expired they will ship you a box and you ship it off and they fix it at no cost. the turn around period is about 7 days.

Here is a link to an article that talks about it

Blank Screen

ccfl ( cold cathode flouroscent lamp ) is the backlit feature of the lcd panel. If you see a blank screen but do see the output on the external monitor then you sure have to take it to the hardware tech to get the inbuilt LCD panel checked. it seems to be a electronic failure. Thanks Ashish.
