On the BB 8800.......you need to have the board service....this will solve the problem on your 8800 Blackberry.

the roll ball......on the pearl....you need to have the pad on the board replaced so take it to a professional mobile technician and have that done.

There is probably some corrosion underneith the center dome cover on the select button. It is held on by some tape. Simply remove the track ball then remove the center select button dome and clean/scrap both sides with a small screwdriver and reinstall. You will probably have to retape it down. This should get you up and running in no time.

The trackball dome and/or module is bad. Try www.bbmedic.com

This might be because of Hardware issue you need to walk into the service center to get it repair.
For your track ball:-
1) Go to menu
2) Select Option's
3) Select screen and key board
4) Make Horizantal and vertical sensitivity to 100, Still not working you need to walk into the service center.

1. In the address book, press the Menu key.
2. Click Options.
3. Click General Options.
4. Set the Allow Duplicate Names field to No.
5. Press the Menu key.
6. Click Save.

Take SIM card out of old phone and put it into the new phone, however first of all you need to backup your old device.

Download the Desktop Manager and connect via USB cable and backup old handset, insert usb into new phone and restore to new phone thus moving all data from old to new.

I had the same thing happen. Tried everything to fix it. Finally, after a couple of hours of troubleshooting, I just gave up and went and put in on the charger. When I did that it fixed it. Have no clue why but it did.

It might be a case where the track ball has some dirt or debris underneath it. First, turn the device off. Next, press down firmly on the track ball while at the same time rolling it in every direction. Hopefully that will knock loose any debris. Another tip to try is to wet your thumb with a little water and do the same thing.

If those two options don't work, you may try taking out the track ball and blowing out the slot with some compressed air. Below is a link that shows how to remove and clean the track ball:
