I have the same problem with my RL 70C. Two weeks ago it started giving the NO FIX message. As far as I'm aware, nothing has been knocked or disconnected. Any help would be appreciated.

I've had the same problem. before replacing the antenna, try to reset the antenna by removing power to the Raystar 120. Disconnect power by either turning off all batteries or disconnecting the red wire from the antenna at the point where it enters the junction box for the chartplotter. This action effectively removes all memory from the antenna and resets it to factory settings. There is a lithianium battery in GPS antenna that holds memory data in the antenna. Disconnecting the power to the antenna for a few seconds clears the memory.

This is exactly what I did and when I turned the chartplotter back on, my Raystar 120 immediately began working again.

My 2002 vintage RL70 system had continual "no fix" or "lost fix" messages through 2006 and 2007 seasons. Raymarine rep suggested replacing the 120 GPS receiver with the 125 receiver. I did this past winter and the problem disappeared. The 125 receiver is better technology....not one "lost fix" since replacement.

Your GPS unit is broken. Check the connections and if they are all ok - buy another unit.

You must have a heading sensor input for radar/chart overlay. (i.e. PG500)

Ais and 1920c Furuno chart plotter

n the system setup, under “UNITS” I set BEARING to “MAG” (magnetic). This will cause the unit to display course / bearing information in relation to the Magnetic North and match magnetic compass readings. It is not the same as True North! One has to be careful with this setting. There are a number of areas where the earth's magnetic field is locally disturbed, sometimes very significantly. Your GPS may not account for it. - again, under “UNITS” I set “METRIC”.

Connect Ratheon RL 70 to Raymarine E80

The two devices can share Nav data only. No radar, Sonar or Chart will be shared.
Hook the RL70 and the E80 together on SeaTalk and all data will be shared both ways. Alternatively, it could be done with NMEA 0183, which is directional, or you could also translate the RL70 data to NMEA 2000 and share it that way. As long as you have all Raymarine equipment, you are home free using a three wire Seatalk connection, with only two hooked up, Yellow and Bare, color to color.
Remember, this will share Nav Data only.

Replacing an RL-70 with an RL 70-CRC

I did exactly what you wish to do a couple of years ago. It was a 5 minute job, cut out the same except the new unit needs a little more space behind and it was a plug for plug swap. Works great and swaps data between the matching chart plotter to give chart overlay on the radar

Raymarine RL70CRC GPSRadar

Hi Matt,

There is a feature in these chartplotters called "Plotter Mode" that is often misunderstood and causes the exact problem you describe.

Press menu.....chart setup.....and scroll to the bottom until you see Plotter Mode in the list of options. It should be set in the OFF position.

If you have more than one display networked onboard check the setting in each one invividually.

What Plotter Mode does is allows the chartplotter system to access range scales not supported on the chart. It is not normally used for map-based navigation but more so for chartless electronic plotting (it can display routes, waypoints and track-recorder breadcrumbs.) open-ocean cruising, or for ultra-precise GPS operations (like a precision anchor drop, finding a very specific location etc. When plotter mode is on you can zoom in to a very, very small working area. The indicator it is enable is the cross-hatch background on the screen, the lack of map information, and the NO CHART DATA watermark on the screen.
