Model sl-1650 direct drive automatic table. arm will not place itself at beginning , first track, of lp. arm consistently travels to center, . position never varies. works fine manually - place arm/needle/cartridge on first track and it plays to end and comes to a stop when no additional lp has been placed on spindle. if so new record will fall properly and arm will travel to center. anyone know what's the problem and how to fix?

SOURCE: Needle drag

Hi, i know this sounds stupid but have u tried using a different record as the record your using may have a defect which wont allow it to play any further. I would also make sure that you weight the tonearm as much as possible but not to much that you wear ur needles out. Let me know how you get on. Gud luck!

SOURCE: Technics SL 1600 MK2

Your tonearm is damaged. More than likely the bearings on the tonearm have been damaged. Unfortunately, there is no easy fix for this. You'll have to have the tonearm replaced, however, parts for the SL1600MK2 have been discontinued. The tonearm for the SL1200MK2 might fit it, but you will need to do some retro-fitting in order to make it work properly. Something only a qualified service center could perform.

Hope this helps some.

Good luck!

Parts are discontinued for these models. You need what's called a P-Mount cartridge screw. Try the following company:

SOURCE: Sears Tape deck/Turn table skipping!

Hi the pennies will mess up the stylus. There should be an anti skate setting at the back of the turn table, a round adjustable bit with numbers, increase the anti skate and then use the balance weigth (weight right at the back of the arm that turns to get the weight right. Set the anti skate with the tone arm light, then increase the weight a bit. Hope that helps

Tone arm pulls in one direction

If the force is towards the center of the disk, it's OK, it's the antiskating force. Set antiskating at 0, set the weight at 0gr, turn around the makeweight in order to set the tone arm parallel to the disk. With the antiskating at 0 the tone arm will stay parallel to the disk in the place you leave it. With the antiskating at any other position the tone arm will stay parallel to the disk going towards the center of the disk.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post.

Hi. I'm have a problem with my Technics SL-BD20 turn table I've just purchased. When putting the arm onto the LP it just skips over the surface to the middle. Why does it do that? Cheers.

Try adjusting the tone arm weight so that the arm will be slightly heavier.

If this does not help, see if the tone arm manual lift handle is operational and fully released when the arm sits on the record.

Another possible cause are the tone arm position sensors inside the unit.

Hope you can fix it.

Crosley CR-49 Turn table stops and will not play when needle arm is positioned to play a song toward the end of the 33 album.

The tone arm may have been forced out of spec to play an entire LP, or the auto cutout function of the player appears to be operating.
If out of adjustment(someone has forced it), the problem can be resolved by loosening the screw that locks the tonearm to its turret, and adjusting the end travel against the distance to the end of the LP you mentioned it wont play. Then of course tighten the locking screw again

Another common problem, is where dried grease between the two small metal plates fixed to mechanism that engage against the center spindle to activate the autostop mechanism. You will need to remove the platter in most cases to get access to this autostop mech to clean away the dried grease and or adjust it.

Good Luck with your listening. Long Live Vinyl :)
