I think you need an extra cat-5 wire.
1.
Plug one CAT-5 LAN cable into the port labeled WAN on Linksys then the other end into the cable Modem where your PC is normally
2.
now take a separate Cat-5 LAN cable adn plug it into port 1 on the linksys - the other end into your PC NIC
3.
Power cycle Cable Modem (remove battery), linksys, PC this will clear the MAC addresses
4.
turn on modem, linksys then pc
5.
loging to windows - open IE on address bar type 192.168.1.1 - this should be the default address of your router (unless you've changed your subnet) in which case I recommend you factory default the route and use default settings. after typing teh 192.1386.1.1 you should see the linksys login
6.
Now try yahoo.com in IE, the routers factory setting for DHCP should work fine without any end user programming from you.
