Sounds like Something is hooked up backwards or voltage is wrong and it's over heating

1. make sure all the speaker pos/neg connections are attached properly as instructed.

2. make sure all voltage selector is set to 120V not 220v

3. try playing with no speakers and add just one speaker at a time (power off with each addition)

4. check the fan on the PSC (printed circuit board) - inherant problem

5. if the above don't work and it's under warranty return it immediately for a replacement

6. if not make sure cooling fan is working and dust free - sometimes flipping or turning it around does the trick this is a design flaw

I'm kinda having the same problem. My unit is just shutting off after 10-30 mins of use, I just took the case off the receiver

  • Glenn514 Oct 03, 2010

I connected a HDMI cable to my TV set hence no speakers issues. Yes it's set at 120 v and it's dust free (brand new). The issue is that it turns on, diagnoses itself, flashes PROT then shuts down (within 5 seconds of boot). Can even reset to factory settings. Conclusion: set it dead. Awaiting replacement.

Power problem

If the protect function works but is causing you problems, cancelling the protection function should help, and it will be possible to enter the self-diagnostic function mode. This should disable all functions of the protection mode, excluding the 'excess electrical current detection' feature.

While pressing the "Tone Control" and "Info" keys, try pressing the power key to turn on the power. Keep pressing those 2 keys for 3 seconds longer.

this should activate the Self Diagnostic function, with your Protection Mode disabled.

in this mode the 'sleep' section on the tv's fluorescent display flashes to indicate that the mode is properly activated.

just be very aware, this function is normally there as a safety feature and i cant guarantee that disabling it altogether won't cause other problems down the road. best of luck!

Denon avr2312ci shuts off and blinks red

Yes that is why. The receiver is protecting itself from an un-stable load impedance which causes current/voltage spikes through the final amplifier components and proportionally through the input where the protection relay is (click),. Do not continue using the amp until you have repaired or replaced the blown speakers. A rule of thumb is to maintain 8 ohms on each speaker wire plugged into the amp. Keep that in mind or eventually you will damage it.

Power overload

That is a good thing, your receiver is going into "protect mode" that means the receiver is shutting down to keep from damaging delicate internal circuitry, it is sensing a speaker bottoming out or some other electrical "short" that could be damaging!
Also could be from over driveing the amp and then it starts to overheat thus going into "protect mode".
If your speakers are "clipping or distorting" turn it down, you are going to ruin your amp. Good luck !

8001 Receiver keeps going into protect mode. What

Fastest way to check the receiver is to disconnect all speaker wires at the receiver and turn the unit back on. If it does not go into protect, your receiver is ok and you need to check all wires and speakers. If just one piece of braid on a speaker wire touches the other, it may not shut off immediately, however, as you turn up the volume the current level rises in the wire and creates a short. Thus, shuts down the receiver. If you need further help troubleshooting, post a comment and I can walk you thru it. Hope this helps.

Samsung 5-Disc 1200-Watt Home Theater Surround Sound System My Home Theatre System is keeps shutting down by its self. before it shuts down the screen says protection mode and then shuts down. i have...

If the unit shuts down almost immediately without sound, you have an electronic failure of the audio amplifier.

However if you must play the unit up above quiet background levels, you likely have a shorted speaker wire. With home theater systems, you have the luxury of trying different surround modes and speaker level settings. It's not unusual, for example, to have a loose wire strand going to the center speaker. In stereo, the system works fine. As soon as you switch to a surround mode, the amplifier senses the short and shuts down to protect itself.

Check those wires really close - I bet you'll find it there.
