I've experienced this problem for countable times. This is not a problem with your tablet pc but a problem with the network on some sim cards (specially if it is old). You just need to wait for it until it allows you to send messages again. If this will happen for more days, I suggest you to buy a new sim card.
Do you hear "clicking" when you press the power button? As if it registers the button but does nothing after the "click?" If not, then it sounds like the mechanical/electrical problem with the button. If you do hear clicking maybe if you simply do a battery pull it may reset what was freaking out the power button.
There is a way to reset the UI (rather than cycling the power) but it involves from shell commands:
the XTerm is in the utilities menu. Open that up and type:
I had the same problem with the n810. I was using a non-oem battery and the connections were a loose fit causing the battery not able to charge. If you take the battery cover off, hold the battery firmly in place. Connect the charger and make sure battery is charging, then press the boot button. If it boots and stays on, then shuts off when you stop holding the battery. Then you probably have a loose connection or a bad battery. Also try cleaning the connector with a pencil eraser and alcohol. I had to wedge tthe battery in place. You can find a spare battery with a desktop charger on Ebay for around $10US.
