Hi,

This is most commonly due to the coils that are part of the gas valve. The glow you see is the hot surface ignitor trying to light the main burner. The gas valve coils will not open the main gas so you never get the heat.

The coils can be replaced.

Dbsr463eg7ww no heat

First check to see that the exhaust venting line is clear (not full of lint) as well as the path in the dryer to the line. This is the most common cause of no heat.
Second set the knob to heat turn on dryer with the lights off and the door open but the "open door" switch so that it still rotates with the door open. Look at the back of the rotating drum for a orange/red glow behind the drum (the heater coils). If there is no glow the heater coils are probably broken.
As the dryers age, the amount of thermal cycles the heater elements go through until the point when the coil wire breaks. There usually two heater coils behind the rotating drum (one hotter than the other and when combined the hottest heat temperature setting. You will need to pop open the top where you see the belt that turns the drum. The belt is removed from the spring loaded tensioner pulley at the base of the dryer. Then you can lift the drum out to get to the heater coils. Since no heat, both should be broken and will require replacement.

Kenmore dryer

I have ran into the flame sensor going out on units causing the same issue. Or it can be the gas coils or ignitor that can be going bad. You may have to take some time and remove the lower front panel and watch the flame and how it cycles. It should cycle on and off to control the temperature inside the unit. Watch the ignition process for at least 5-10 ignitions. If at any time the ignitor glows red and then clicks off. And the gas does not come out to ignite, then you have gas coils going bad.

I a have a kenmore 417 dryer that is not heating I followed the steps

Check to see if the electrical coils are glowing or not...... they are located right behind the cloths drum. (sounds as though they are NOT heating up) In order to see these coils...... first, remove all the cloths from the drum. second, while the dryers door is open 7 the drum is empty look all the way to the rear or the metal drum, it has a flat back in which you will notice there are quite a few holes. During the next step you will want to watch these holes as we check to see if the heating coils are lighting up (they will glow like the heating element in your oven... or burners on your stove top as they get hot.... ORANGE IN COLOR IS WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE) Now.... with the dryer drum empty & the door OPEN..... you will find a small pushbutton located somewhere around the outide of the drum opening thats activated (pushed in when you cose the door), depress this little button and hold it IN (this is tricking the dryer into thinking the door is closed... but its not, your holding the button NOT the door.... luckly the dryer isn't smart enough to know this) You must continue to hold the button in till the test is over.... if you let go it will IMMEDIATELLY STOP the dryer! Now, push the start button located on the console like you normally would do so during normal operation (it is recommended that the temperature be set to the HIGHEST SETTING during this test). As the dryer starts and the drum turns.... watch those holes located in the back of the drum! It takes a minute for the coils to get hot enough to glow so give it a few minutes before giving up..... after 3 minutes an ORANGE GLOW should appear through those little holes. The glow you see is the coils getting hot like the element in your oven. If after 3 minutes..... NO ORANGE GLOW can be seen through any of these holes..... the heating element needs to be replaced (this is a common problem & is usually inexpensive to replace..... $15 - $20) Replacement heating elements are available at most appliance stores..... remember to write down the manufacturers name, the dryers model number, and serial # prior to going to the store for a replacement. You MUST provide this information to the dealer for proper replacement parts! Once you've got the new heating element (it will look similar to a really long spring) you'll be Up & Running in No time!!!!) Just follow the instructions which are usually provided by the manfacturer to properly replace the broken element! Hope this helps...... GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Drum turns but no Heat problem!!

Brian, if the glow ignitor comes on for a minute clicks and goes off then you need valve coils. if no glow at all could be ignitor or thermal fuse.

Whirlpool gas dryer Model #WGD5530SQ0 not heating properly

If your dryer heats when you first turn it on and after a few minutes it does'nt. check the ignitor to see if it is glowing. It should glow bright then you will hear a click and the burner will light. If the ignitor glows bright but you hear a click but no flame and if you watch this for several minutes and this process continues of glow then glow goes out no flame, then you have a bad burner coil. There are 2 black solenoids sitting on top of gas valve. One of them is shorting out after it warms up. Replace both solenoids. You can usually get them as a kit from parts store.

Gas dryer Amana Model LGA30AW, rattling noise, no heat.

I was experiencing a similar problem. I just repaired mine yesterday, with the help of this web site. Remove the front bottom panel. The are two screws located on the bottom of the panel. They are there, just slightly hidden. Turn on dryer to heat. Look inside where the panel was. Wait a minute or two and you will see the igniter glow. After a minute or so you might hear a click and the gas valve will open to start flame. After a while flame will go out until it cycles again. If your igniter glows and you hear the rattling noise and then the igniter glow goes out and you have no flame, it might be your solenoid coils are bad. These are the two black round things located on top of the gas valve. Make sure your gas dryer is unplugged. There is a wire clip attached to each solenoid. Unplug them. I needed to pry them off carefully with a flat screwdriver. There is a metal bracket holding those two solenoids in. There are two screws that you will need to remove the bracket. Use a flashlight to see them. Slide them up and off the gas valve. One is a 2 prong and one is a 3 prong. I bought a new set for 26.75. Put the new ones back the same way as you took them off. The is little nips on the top of the solenoid that line back up with the holes of the top bracket when reassembling them. Plug your machine back in and turn on and watch to see if the ignitor glows again and watch for the flame. Put panel back on and enjoy dry hot clothes again. GOOD LUCK
