A brand-new, never-inserted-into-the-printer, ink-cartridge will have a small piece of tape over part of the mechanism, to prevent the ink from drying-out while it sits on the store's shelf. If you inserted a brand-new cartridge, without removing that tape, just remove the cartridge, remove the tape, and re-insert the cartridge.
The error-message did say "this" *OR* "that".
Did you just insert a brand-new cartridge? If so, then the printer-software is requesting that you run through the "alignment" procedure, namely to print a page, and then you qualitatively decide how well the color printout aligns-with/overlaps-with the black printout. With those measurements, the printer will adjust itself, to produce the best-looking (least "fuzzy") colour pictures.
