I have a new top loader GE washer. it works fins but when it comes to drying, it shakes like crazy and makes very bad hammering noise

Make sure the washer is level. Most important make sure the shipping pins are removed. Classic! Good luck! The pins are located underneath your washer. Tilt up and pullem out!

unscrew the 4 screws inside the detergent dispenser and lift the top and see if the counterweight on the tub is loose,otherwise it may be the drum bearings going bad on the inner drum

If it is a ge kenmore it sounds like your tub bearing is dry and needs to be replaced.The reason i say ge kenmore is because they fall under differant companys depending on witch year you bought it
