It most likely is your foot pedal. Unplug your foot pedal and start the machine without it. If it works properly without the foot pedal plugged in then your foot pedal needs repaired or replaced. This worked for us with the NX400 machine and I am sure the NX450 is closely similar. Don't bother to buy a Manual if you didn't already get one with the machine. A Service manual and parts manual is best; But just so you know they don't show the error codes unless you are a qualified and authorized repair person for the machines. I got my info from the repair man where my wife buys and repairs her machines. I am an electronic technician and mechanic so I understand how this system works. I will be repairing my wife's machines from now on.
Well it's October 2021 and I just pulled out my Brother SE625 after not using it in quite some time. (Bought a Juki but now need to zigzag some edges). I got the F04 Foot Controller Break message and saw this website. Too many old answers and no time to read but they all pertained to the foot pedal. So I turned on the machine without the foot pedal plugged in and the message went away - yeah! Then I plugged in the foot pedal to see if the message appeared again and it did not - yippee! Then I tried sewing - happy camper - I have been sewing for an hour and no problems. Not sure if this helps anyone but figured I'd share.
F04 is foot control error. It is probably a bad foot control, but it may be the plug in on the machine or a circuit board.
Before replacing the foot control, you should bring the machine to a Brother shop and try a new control. If the new one works, then the control was the problem.
