I cannot connect my 1450 Dell wireless adapter to my new inspirion 5805. It shows up in the device but keeps asking for the driver. It is running Windows 7 premium. In my device manager it shows under networks adapters the Broadcom Netlink but can't even download the drivers on this computer. I was wondering is the adapter too old. We are running off a linksys home network. Please help. Does anybody have the driver i need to install?

In the Manufacturers website. It doesnt say it is compatible with Windows 7 or Vista. They have just mentioned XP as compatible OS. But try installing the driver from the following link

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R140747&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D610&os=WXPX&osl=en&deviceid=6483&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=3&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=187881

Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7 does not include native drivers for the Del True Mobile 1450 USB Wireless adapter and there will be no 1450 USB Wireless adapter drivers available from Dell that are compatible with the Windows Vista or Winds 7 Operating System.

There will be no support for the Dell True Mobile 1450 USB Wireless adapter in Windows Vista or Windows 7.

My main computer is vista, the one with wireless router , but I want to use my xp computer with the dell 1450 wireless usb adapter. it won't work

Dell do not provide support for vista on the 1450 USB adapter - see here http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=bsdv&dl=false&docid=20075A1DBD60D650E0401E0A55175C46&doclang=en
I have not tried this - but found on another forum http://www.vistaforums.com/Forum/Topic5380-21-1.aspx olution:
  1. 1) Install the Dell 1450 USB drivers on a PC with XP32 (assuming your target machine is 32-bit)
  2. 2) Copy the "2K" drivers from the install directory ( c:\program files\dell wireless ) to a flash drive.
  3. 3) Copy the "2K" drivers from the flash drive to the Vista machine. After you plug in your 1450 choose to manually select the driver then browse to that folder. You should be up an running in a few seconds.
The extra connection manager software that came with the adapter won't run on Vista but you'll still get a good wireless connection.

Dell 1450 Wireless Adapter is losing the connection after 5 minutes and then can't find the connection again without re-starting the computer. Frustrating!

Here are a few suggestions:

1. make sure that in device manager this device is set so that it does not get turned off to save power. (Start-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager-Network Adapters-Right-Click the wireless card-properties), also do the same for the USB ports

2. Install the latest drivers from - support.dell.com (since it is a USB Device, if installing latest version of the 1450 drivers does not fix it also update the BIOS and Chipset Drivers of your system)

3. Check for interference, especially from 2.4GHZ cordless phones

Check to see if the same thing happens when you take it to someone else's house.

I hope some of these suggestions help

roster, Yes, you can replace it with a different adapter.

Does the device manager recognize the d1450u adapter?
If not re-install the driver for it.
Let me know how you make out.
