Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

You don't really need additional software in order to use your camera.

Despite what I said first... There are plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

How to acquire videos from camera?

very simple. you need to get an SD card reader from your local electronics store ( CC or Best buy). it's very simple. the memory card goes into the card reader and that ensemble plugs into any of the usb ports in your computer. once plugged in, the computer will recognize it as external memory, just like a flash/thumb drive and your comptuer can read the pictures off of the card without any interaction with the camera itself. you will be able to see both the picture and video files on the memory card. all you will need to do is copy the pictures or the videos, and paste them into any folder you wish. your computer should have no problem recognizing those files. and windows media player should not have a problem reading the video files either. with them on your computer you can just drag and drop them into any video editing software that you have. i have a canon sd750 and that's exactly what i do. works like a charm.

Dowloading images to my PC

The images are still on the card I would imagine Try these things. 1 if you are downloading via camera software as supplied on a disk Remove the software. 2.Try then to up load - Windows will find the camera all by its self. 3. To see in the images are on the computer Go to Start/Find/ and in the field type *.jpg This will locate every jpeg file on the computer/and Camera no matter where they are. 4.If you have no images showing on the card Go to www.konvar.com download PC Inspector This l;ittle program will recover any 'lost' images on the card or on your drive,
