hi have had the same problem, you need to clean the data strip that is connected to the main cutting head .its a clear looking plastic strip between 2 other strips you can't pull it all the way out so be careful. just wipe it with a clean cloth you will see black soot like powder come off it, as soon as you do this it should be back to normal, repeat weekly and you should be ok.

No it will not work with XP windows or higher, because this system is using an out dated window system that goes back to the early nineties, and to my knowledge there is no driver available to run it with the current window system.
