Add 404A to system. It is low on gas. But kep an eye on the TXV for ice buildup. Make sure unit is free of ice before you charge it. It is difficultr to charge a refer system when itis iced up. Rus

Superheat is the dif. between suction temp on the gauge and temp on the suction line. Make sure you are measuring the right line/ Normal superheat is between 10 to 14 degrees depending on line length. Russ

I have to know what the outside temp is and I also need to know the seer of the unit. It would also help to know what the indoor temp is as well. Generally your suction pressure or what you are referring to as the indoor temp will be about the same. Let's say your indoor temp is 75, then your suction pressure should be around 75psi as well. Based on the suction pressure you just gave me, I would bet that the temp is not 38 degrees. With the suction at 38 and a low head or high side, you may be low on refrigerant. 110 is a little low but again, this depends on the seer rating of the unit. A higher seer will have a lower head.

carrier did sell some systems with R407c as a quick fix to gov regulations for about 2 yrs. R407c is a blend . and is treated like R410a except R407c pressures are more simular to R22. being that the pressures run the same the system should work with out changing any parts that being said if the evaporator has been used for R22 the oil residue wiil give you problems ifit is a new unit you would be ok.

it sounds like a loose compression compressor.

if the compressor is loose compression, normally it sounds noisy. then suction pressure is above normal and if you accelerate and maintains that high speed, let say 2000 rpm, the suction pressure goes down to the normal level and cools your air conditioning .
