This is a scanner problem that can be associated with the scanner lock under the scanner bed. make sure the lock is in the 'unlocked' position. it is easy to move this when lifting the scanner bed to reload the ink blocks. if this does not solve the problem you may have to replace the scanner assembly. hope this helps.
The scanner lock was already in the "unlocked" position. From the Xerox support site I was told to tighten the screws on the scanner cable located by the on/off switch. I tightened them, (they weren't completely tight, although connection seemed to be good) So far everything is working okay today. If any more problems, will let you know.
