Like any system, Xbox consoles require occasional cleaning to remain in peak condition. If you're experiencing skipping, poor sound quality, increased loading time, or any number of technical annoyances, simply cleaning your Xbox lens may correct the problem. The lens is responsible for reading all the data on your Xbox game discs; it is the most important part of the entire system. Cleaning the lens takes only a few minutes with the right cleaning product and know-how.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* CD lens cleaning disc

1.Purchase a CD lens cleaning disc. It is important that you buy a lens cleaner for a CD player, not a DVD player. Classic Xbox consoles are not DVD compatible, but they can play CDs. Some lens cleaning discs are marketed specifically as Xbox 360 cleaners, but these may not work in an original Xbox if the disc is DVD-formatted.

2.Turn on your television and Xbox just like you normally would to play a video game.

3.Open your Xbox's disc drive, placing the lens cleaning disc in the drive face-up. A lens cleaning disc works by sweeping small brushes over the laser lens surface. These brushes are located on the bottom of the disc; be careful not to touch the brushes---the microfiber brushes are delicate and can become damaged easily.

4.Close the Xbox and let the machine power up; make sure your television's volume is turned on. Your Xbox should automatically take you to the system's standard CD player menu. If this does not happen, select the menu manually using your Xbox controller.

5.Begin playing the first track of the cleaning disc. Listen carefully, because audio directions will play indicating the steps necessary for properly using your cleaning disc. Each brand of lens cleaning disc will have different steps, but they are typically very simple, involving tasks like skipping ahead to different tracks or briefly putting the CD in fast forward mode. If you cannot hear the audio directions, consult the written instructions packaged with the disc.

6.Remove the cleaning CD after you've followed the audio directions---a typical cleaning cycle only takes a few minutes, and the audio directions will tell you when cleaning is complete.

7.Carefully place the lens cleaning disc back in its case, avoiding damaging the brushes on the bottom. Lens cleaners can be used multiple times, so plan on using the cleaning disc regularly to help avoid future problems with your Xbox console

CD DVD ROM doesnt read dvds when i insert the disk the light turns on i can hear the dvd turning but later on it stops. turn and stop again. then it doesnt read the dvd anymore

Hello,

how long have you been using this CD ROM? I suspect the laser (lens) of the CD ROM. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the CD ROM and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the CD ROM cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new CD ROM.

Good luck...........

My cd player wont work there is a cd in there but it will not eject and it will not play! ..

Here is my trick. Get a credit card and insert it in the cd slot, work it arround, not too hard or any thing, just enough to trigger the release mechanisim. the cd should eject. not a fool proof method but has worked a couple of times for me.

Says all cd's r unreadable

Hi, when a cd inserted inside a cd player and it says unreadable, it means that the lens of the player is weak and can't play the cd inserted.

You can use a lens cleaner to clean it, if when you use the lens cleaner and it does not work, that means the cd lens is bad and it needs to be replaced.

Take care.

When I insert a blank DVD -R, which worked fine before, it seems as though it is trying to read it then it ejects it. It works fine with CD.

Hello,

this is an indication that your the lens (laser) of your drive is weak. Its weak such that it cannot load DVD, but will load Cd because DVD is larger in size than CD.

Get a lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, then it means its getting to the time when you need to get another drive, because Drive lens cannot be replaced once its weak, unlike DVD players.

I hope you understand my message.

Good luck.

My drive will read the CD, but it will not run anything off it

Hello
I think the lens for your drive is weak. Clean the lens of the drive and try again to see if it works.
Or maybe the CD you inserted as some scratches. But if you are convinced that the drive is bad, then I will advice that you get another one.
Take care

Jvc kd-sx770 car stereo--radio works, but cd player doesn't

Hello beeswing70,

The player is recognizing that a CD has been inserted but is not able to read it.

Sometimes the lens assembly becomes contaminated and obscures the laser. I'd try using a commercial "lens cleaning CD" two or three times and then try a CD again. These lens cleaning CD's are widely available. If cleaning does not help, the player need professional service.

Hope this helps.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1525 and when I try and burn a cd it ejects it saying please insert a blank disc. Checking on my other computer the disc is blank and burns on that one fine.

It Sounds like the read lens on your CD/DVD Writer may be dirty or faulty giving a false reading.

Depending on whether your drive ejects in a manner allowing you to see the lens or if the lens stays internal there are a couple of differnt ways to clean it.

If it stays internal you need to get one of those cleaner CDs that will give you directions on how to use it.

If you can see the lens you can get by with a couple of (Qtips) cotton swabs and some Isopropl alcohol. dip one end in the alcohol and squeeze out any excess, open the drive so you can see the lens, disconnect the power source (safety first) wipe the lens in a circular motion, no need for alot of pressure just wipe. After you've covered the whole lens use the dry end to dry off the lens. Give it a minute or 2 to dry completely then reapply power and check to see if it works now.

If this fails try to see if it reads a disc you know has data on it. Verify that you are using media that is compatible with the drive. Some can use CD -R, or CD +R, or CD -RW or CD+RW

If still no luck you likely have a damaged drive that needs to be repaired or replaced

Hope this helpS

Toyota MR2 cd player keeps ejecting CD's

Send it to me and I can fix, just a case of a dam good clean of the lens and reflective prisums inside the laser chassis (requiers a lot of skill to take laser lens / coil assembly off and put back on) and then a Oscilloscope to set the laser back up using little adjusment pots and away she goes again, just dirt and component tollerences change over the years. this applies to the matsushita made Toyoat CD-X3000, 74209 and a couple others that are found in Toyota Supra, MR2, Celica, Estima of the age 1991 - 1997 ish.
