You'll need to download the Ethernet driver with another computer that can connect the net. Put the file on a USB flash drive or other media to transfer the information. Then install it on the computer with the missing drivers.
Assuming the motherboard in question is the Asus A8N-VM CSM, you can find the drivers and documents here: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/A8N-VM%20CSM/HelpDesk_Download/ . Click on the Driver & Utility tab. The A8N-VM CSM uses the NVidia nForce 430 Gigabit MAC with external Marvell 88E1111 PHY LAN. This driver is listed under the Others at the above site. If that doesn't work, try the nVidia driver here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_8.26_11.09.html . Note: some of these drivers will not work if you do not have at least Windows XP Service Pack 1.
I hope this helps. Unfortunately, on-board internet chips can fail. If manually installing the driver doesn't help the Device Driver identify the LAN, you may want to consider using a PCI or PCIe network card or a USB network adapter. Make sure to get one that is listed as compatible with XP and obtain any needed drivers.

(Since XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, obtaining updates and drivers through the Windows Update can be a problem. You may need to try to find the Service Packs manually from the Microsoft site. I found the tie between Windows Internet Explorer and Windows Update to cause some problems with maintaining the OS.)

Hi nenmacil, suggest you disconnect any other sound device jacks when installing the supremeFX II software. Asus boards use auto jack sensing software.
Disconnect your other speakers. You also have the option for live chat from Asus: http://livesupport.asus.com/
Your board is very new (2008). Check with a pro from Asus.
Or call tech, M-F, 8:00AM to 5:00PM EST at: 1-812-282-2787.
Good luck nenmacil!
Thank you for using fixya.

SOURCE: missing ethernet controller+Pci device+ sm bus controller
PCI Modem is your dial up modem, Ethernet Controller is your Network Card, and SM Bus Controller is your Motherboard Chipset drivers. There missing because your Operating System has Either Corrupt Drivers or they were never installed in the first place. Sounds like a fresh installation was done and nobody bothered to look in the device manager to see if any hardware drivers were missing.
