It is possible that you have too many messages in it and don't have enough RAM memory to operate the program. Do you think this might be it

Have you tried outlook safe mode? 1. Click on Start ¦ Run.
    2. Type outlook/safe
    3. Click on OK.

also after trying to open wait, say 10 minutes and maybe it will open or freeze up but with no error messages it must be thinking that it is opening, but really slowly

Alright to help get rid of some of the memory (which can be put back in later) Look for your data files ending in .pst and back them up which means rename them and put them in a different folder not in outlook and see if outlook will start then.

Do you mean you want to add your yahoo email to Outlook?

Go to add/Remove programs in the control panel. Find Microsoft Outlook or if you installed it as part of Office you may only find Microsoft Office in the list. There should be a change button, click it. Once the installer opens you should have a repair option, select it, then go through the steps you are prompted. Make sure you have your Outlook or Office CD handy as you will be asked for it. This should repair outlook and allow you to get in.

I still think something is corrupted with either your Outlook or your mail store. Doing the repair will eliminate Outlook from the problem. Then if the problem persists after the repair I can help you move your mail store and delete your account to try and access Outlook again.

Let me also suggest Mozilla Thunderbird as a free Outlook alternative, I prefer it. It's a lot less bloated than Outlook and more reliable. If you don't use the calendar in outlook it's the best, but Mozilla has Sunbird for that.

No, repairing will not touch your mail store.

  • Dean Joly

I have never seen the amout of messages being a problem especially related to the amount of RAM in a computer. Windows is great at swapping out unnecessary items from memory to it's hard drive based virtual memory swap file. It could be that your mail store (PST file) is corrupt but Outlook would still open and you would get an error message if that was the case. It sounds like Outlook is trying to start but then stops. I have users that have 2 or 3 Gigabyte mail stores and have no problem opening up Outlook on a machine with 512MB or even 256MB of RAM.

Do you know how to bring up the task manager? If not you can get it by right clicking the task bar and clicking Task Manager or by pressing crtl-shift-esc. Then go to the processes tab, then try to start Outlook, you should see outlook.exe appear in the list. If it goes away right away then do the repair, if it stays up but stops then also to the repair. If it keeps running, and its memory usage keeps climbing then there might be something wrong with your mail store, but I doubt it.

I can't sign into my webmail account

Webmail is a type of email that allows you to access your messages on any computer with a browser and Internet connection.
Webmail has its advantages over email clients (such as Outlook) in that it allows remote access to your account.
It also is convenient because it does not require extra software to be installed on your computer. It takes a couple of moments to log in to your webmail account.
Open a browser.
Go to your email service login page.
For example, If you have a Yahoo! account, go to http://mail.yahoo.com/, if you have a Gmail account, go to http://mail.google.com/ and if you have a AOL account, go to http://webmail.aol.com.
Contact your Internet service provider if you're not sure of your Webmail login page.

Type your user name and password in the fields provided on the page.
Click the "Go" or "Sign In" button.
You will be taken to your email account where you can manage your messages.
