    I have updated the bios, the chipset drivers and the video drivers and the computer does not see the anything is connected tot he HDMI port. I have tried rebooting the computer while it is still connected to the TV. I need something else other than the obvious, which I have tried over and over again.

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2010

    Sorry, but I have been there and done that. Once I select graphic properties I have no options on the display device tab. It says single display...Two devices must be connected in order to use this feature.....

    I tried to autodetect. The computer, just does not see that the TV is connected.

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2010

    I have tried everything. The root of the problem is that the computer does not acknowledge the fact that the TV is connected at all thru HDMI. The VGA connection works fine. I can use fn F8 and any other settings. MAybe the HDMI is bad on the computer...but I do not know how to test it.....

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2010

    I cannot tell the laptop to use another display as it does not recognize the fact that another display is connected....Thus, I have a problem.

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2010

    Tried that. The computer does not recognize that anything is connected to the HDMI port. I'm about to give up...After three days of trying things, the vga is OK. I only wnated to use the HDMI port so that I wouldn't need an additional sound cable.

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2010

    Same thing...I extend to the second monitor and nothing happens...It truly is as if nothing is connected. I'm going to blame it on the HDMI cable...I will return the 24K gold plated POS!!!

  • Anonymous Aug 19, 2010

    somewhat helpful. In the end. I have done everything suggested and the problem was not resolved. I just gave up.

Hello sir, hi, to send video to an external monitor TV or projector, you need to press Fn with a key corresponding to a square that looks like a monitor/projector or screen, (usually F5) check you function keys. Fn + function key with a screen icon.

    I have tried that, but I recieve the message that no external display available.

  • Jerry Umali Aug 18, 2010

    Hello sir, when I encounter this type of problem, I usually reinstall windows, this method re-freshes all registry entries, and installing device driver on a FRESH copy of windows makes everything work smooth. Now about your problem, my smart guess is that your OS has registry problems, this makes new hardware or software installation faulty. There is a possibility that a MALWARE type of virus is on your laptop, and my probable wild guess is a question, Before you first bought your laptop, did you notice that the HDMI section on the display was already detected? or have been installed properly? If no, them there is a fault in the hardware or display property, an improper device driver installation can disable the HDMI, you see windows has already the VGA driver installed but not the HDMI. better check this first.

    How do I install an HDMI driver? I guess that is what I am looking for. The video card is an Intel 945 express chipset,

  • Jerry Umali Aug 18, 2010

    Hello again sir, as a backgrounder, when we install windows, a GENERIC VGA driver is installed, this driver will mostly work with your system, but not the exact driver, You need the CD driver that comes with your laptop, assuming that the CD got lost, you download one from the Intel website, and find the correct driver, Installing the correct graphics driver will also install the HDMI audio driver. If you are using Microsoft Windows XP*, you may need to first install KB888111.exe, the Microsoft* UAA High Definition Audio Package version 1.0a. This file is needed so that your HDMI will work (hopefully). If still no progress, my advice is you backup your hard drives for important files, and install a fresh copy of windows, to make and refresh all registry problems, and make all your gears and devices work including your HDMI setup the first time.

You have to tell the laptop to use either DUAL or EXTERNAL display.

This is usually done with the FN button pressed in conjunction with the F5 key (may be other key)

The F key you want will have a small monitor icon or even two overlapping monitor icons.

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2010

    Did you try the FN key as suggested ?

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2010

    Sorry I did not see the responses as the system here is pooched big time for the last couple of weeks

  • Anonymous Aug 16, 2010

    Ok what you also need to do is call up the dispaly properties.

    In here you can also tell it that you want to display on external displays (dual view) or you can also tell it to EXTEND the display either one of those should at least get you some gorm of picture

    Right click on a blank area of the desktop to get going on this If you have an option for NVIDIA control panle also check in there too.

    Try the "adjust resolution" option and you should see two monitor icons marked 1 and 2

    if you dont then it is not currently set to display on a second screen.

    Use "extend" first if you can find it then work up to the "duplicate these displ;ays"

    Again sorry for the state opf the system around here

    OK they fixed the comment button on here.

    Just a simple question

    Are you using a good quality hdmi lead and NOT just an adaptor.

    Reason I ask is that I got a batch of adaptors and had to send them all back along with some HDMI to component cables as they too would not work

    Since then I only supply GOOD quality cables and avoid adaptors completly.

    Additionally make sure your laptop display is set to no more than 1024 x 768

    Are you using the HDMI or the DVI on the laptop as that too could have an impact regarding the cables used.

    Never had the same issues you havesince I changed my approach to cables and I always use external displays when working on laptops

  • Anonymous Aug 19, 2010

    Dang !

    they fixed the add comment but it keeps dropping what I type so lets try again !

    OK are you using a GOOD quality cable and NOT an adaptor ?

    I had some issues with a supplier and a whole batch of HDMI to VGA adaptors and HDMI to DVI cables along with a batch of VGA to component cables that all had to go back.

    Since then I only use higher quality cables

    Also are you using the HDMI on the lappy or the DVI ?

    That may also have a bearing depending on the cables you use.

    If you are using a DVI to DVI you have an issue I suspect with the laptop itself but I somehow doubt that.

    From here I can only suspect a bad cable and if you have a DVI to DVI (maybe from a DVD player connection or other digital TV connection then I would like you to try that.

    Your lappy has multiple options for output and I just wonder if maybe (not 10% sure) that it has been set to use one of the alternate output first which would tie in with you seeing a display from the VGA and not any of the others.

Ok there can be servral causes to why nothing is happening:

1. Dell is set for a resolution that is not supported
2. The refesh rate is set to high

Check your resolution and refresh rate setting them at the lowest then when you got sych you can change those values.

also check you hdmi cable not all of them work for example a version 1.4 cable is to high of bandwith for the set and the computer. Remeber your Dell is not HD high definition by no means that max it will give you if supported by the tv is 1024 X 768

Thanks I hope this helped please do click the accept button for my efforts.

Have you tried the FN and F7 keys to enable this feature? If not just press the FN(fuction key) and the F7(dual monitor key) at the same time while everything is hooked up, This will enable you to switch between the monitor and tv or view on both at the same time.

    Hi,

    Try this: Turn the laptop completely off, don't restart.

    Make sure the HDMI cable is plugged into both the laptop and TV, select the correct source on the TV and then turn the laptop on.

    See if that helps.

Hi.

Go to Appearance and Personalization control panel, hitting "Adjust Screen Resolution," go into the Display Settings control panel, hitting "Advanced Settings" and then find the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator tab. Choose the "Graphics Properties" button, and choose "Intel Dual Display Clone" (instead of Extended Desktop config. set by default).

HDMI from your Dell laptop does not carry sound, you will need to run a cable connecting to audio port to have sound on TV.
Let me know how it goes, do not forget to accept if this does fix the problem.

Is HDMI4 correct or HDMI1?

depends on what you plug into on back of tv
is it a dvd player with a hdmi cable ?
or is it a tv antenna cable ?
or is it AV cable ?
The input select on the tv menu must be the same as the port you plugged the cable into

DTV = Digital Tv
AV1 = Av input 1 the yellow plug type cable red and white audio plugs
HDMI1 = HDMI1 port
HDMI2 = HDMI2 port
HDMI3 = HDMI3 port
HDMI4 = HDMI4 port

component in looks very similar to av in so if using av cables
use av1 in port rather than component in .

How do I get my RCA streaming media player to play on my Phillips 36" t.v using HDMI cable? I have new HDMI cable but nothing comes on the t.v

did you change the input source on the TV. What HDMI input did you plug into HDMI1 HDMI2 HDMI3 ? The input source has to match the port you put the hdmi cable into on the TV.
If no HDMI output on your media player use an adapter RCA to HDMI adapter. Here is an example of such a device

Hdmi invalid format 1080p

If you put the input from HDMI3 into HDMI2 does the problem follow the input, or does it stay with HDMI3? If it stayed with HDMI3, check the connector visually for damage (cracks, dirt, bent connector). You may have to replace the board, or if you are really handy, the connector. If the problem moved to HDMI2, then look for a cable or device problem.

How do I connect a Toshisba soundbar?

Your sound bar should have some sort of HDMI IN and HDMI OUT. This means that there are at least one place to plug a HDMI cable into the bar from either your dish or bluray player and then you take another HDMI cable and plug it into the port labeled HDMI OUT and this will plug into your TV either in HDMI1, HDMI2, or HDMI3 and then it will provide sound for the device. Unfortunately you didn't not list the item so I can not look it up to see if it can accept multiple devices so if it only has two HDMI ports then it can only support one device and you will have to manually change out devices through the HDMI IN port. Essentially the soundbar is just a pass though and takes the sound and sends the picture to the tv.

Dell insperon 1525 no sound or picture to tv with new hdmi cable connected , it worked fine yesterday but now i can get nothing , it doesnt even show on the tv that the laptop is connected to the tv

When you connect the laptop to the tv with the HDMI cable you will need to press function and F1/F2 depending on your keyboard layout. It is the key with 2 screens on it.
Once you press that windows will show you options for changing displays like Duplicate, Extend, Monitor, Projector(in this case Projector is the TV)
And for audio, you will need to right click on the volume mixer in the system tray and say playback devices. Click on the hdmi one and say set as default.
When this is done, everytime you plug in the HDMI to the TV it will automatically play audio from the TV.
